~Dans POV~
Some time within the next half hour, the ambulance arrived and took Hazel and I to the hospital. The EMT's had hooked Hazel up to various machines in the back of the moving vehicle, their beeping being the only thing I could hear besides the deafening sound of the wailing sirens.
Dread washed over me as I realized the true severity of what could happen to Hazel. She could die. She could fucking die, and it would be my fault. I'm the reason my whole family would be gone.
One of the doctors shot me a glare whenever she had the chance, then went back to working on Hazel. I couldn't blame her, what kind of parent leaves alcohol lying around for their three year old child to find? While I was wallowing around in self pity, (y/n) and Winnie were god knows where, and Hazel was drinking herself into a coma right beside me.
'I'm such a fucking idiot.'
All I could do was hold onto her little hand and bite on the inside of my cheek to stop myself from excessively sobbing.
Luckily my phone was in my back pocket, so I pulled it out and shot a quick text to Phil. I was still a little woozy and I needed him to be at the hospital with me. Within seconds I received a text back, I was relieved Phil was even up at this hour.
Phil: Are you kidding me? We seriously need to talk Dan. I'm on my way.
Before I knew it, the paramedics were rolling Hazel out of the ambulance on a stretcher, and I was jumping out of the vehicle trying to keep up. I got told off by a few nurses to back up and let them work on my daughter, but I couldn't help it. I needed to be by her side.
The group of four or five paramedics and nurses, all at the sides of Hazel's stretcher, turned a corner and pushed open a set of doors. I was just going through to follow them when I was stopped by a man dressed in blue scrubs just in front of me.
"I'm sorry sir, but you can't go in there. That's for doctors and nurses only." He told me through his blue surgical mask, his hand on my shoulder as he pushed me back.
"No-- No, my daughters in there, I have to be with her, I have to see her--" I pleaded as I attempted to push past him, but was denied entry again.
"I'm sorry sir, you'll have to wait out here. We will inform you when you are able to see your daughter."
I stared longingly through the small windows of the door, watching them roll Hazel down the hallway and into a room. I heaved a sigh of annoyance as she disappeared and pushed the mans arm off my shoulder before turning on my heel and finding an empty seat in the waiting room.
Even though I had picked a chair to pile my jacket, wallet and phone on, I still paced back and forth in the waiting room as I began gaining stares from all around. Some were looks of pity, and some were confused or irritated glares.
I raked my hands through my hair, which was getting longer and longer but I couldn't be bothered to go get it cut, as I ignored the looks I was getting from the other hospital patrons.
After a few minutes of endless pacing, I left the waiting room in search of a bathroom. It took me all of ten minutes to find one, god forbid they have any signs up in this place.
I pushed open the door with my arm before I immediately went up to the sink, looking at myself in the mirror. I looked like I had been tied to the back of a car bumper and dragged for six miles straight. My hair was a disheveled mess, there were deep purple bags under my eyes, my skin was pale and almost seemed lifeless, and my eyes were still bloodshot from drinking earlier.
