"I'm gonna start you off easy. Tonight at midnight, go down to the variety store a few blocks from your apartment. Leave when everyone is asleep and make sure you're not followed. At precisely 12:10, call this number again."

It made me a little uneasy knowing that this guy knew exactly where my apartment building was and could come knocking on the door at anytime.

"How do I know you're not just saying you know where Winnie is?" I questioned, obviously suspicious of him.

"I'll send proof once you get to the shop. Until then," he chuckled, "I guess you're just going to have to trust me."

"Trust you? Trust you?" This time I was the one laughing. "You've been stalking me for god knows how long, and I haven't the slightest idea of who you are. Tell me, how exactly am I supposed to trust you?"

"Do you have any other choice?" He asked. I could practically feel him smirking on the other end of the line.

I said nothing, only because I knew he was right. He laughed again.
"Have a nice evening, (y/n)."
And with that, he hung up.

I sighed shakily, pulling the phone away from my ear. I copied the man's number down and added it into my contacts list.

Looking at the Pokémon clock hanging on the wall, it was nearly seven o'clock. I could do nothing but wait.

_________

I was lying in bed with Hazel, her sleeping soundly on Dan's side and me staring at the ceiling for what seemed like the longest time, my stomach in knots. I rolled over onto my side and grabbed my phone off of the nightstand, looking at the time.
11:56.

I got out of bed and got changed, putting on black tights, black boots and one of Dan's black hoodies. I wasn't exactly sure what this guy wanted me to do, but whatever it was, I wanted to be prepared.

I stepped as softly as I could out of the bedroom, being careful not to wake Hazel. I closed the door quietly and started making my way to the front door when I heard Dan in the kitchen. As I walked by, he questioned me.

"(Y/n)? Where are you going?" Dan asked, just finishing pouring himself a cup of coffee.
Quickly making up an excuse, "For a walk." I answered.

"It's almost midnight." Dan said, rubbing his face. His hair was a mess and there were dark circles under his eyes. Clearly the lack of sleep was getting to him.
"So?" I snapped back, angered that this was taking longer than planned.

"So, it's not safe to be walking around by yourself at night, especially in our situation. Are you serious?" Dan asked, annoyed.
"I'm an adult Dan, I don't need a freaking babysitter to watch my every move." I told him, rolling my eyes and continuing towards the door.

"(Y-y/n)," Dan followed out of the kitchen and stood behind me. "at least let me come with you."
I hesitated before I answered.
"No, you stay here. I-I need some time by myself."

I walked out after that.

I felt awful treating Dan that way.
Truth be told, I would've preferred if Dan was with me. He made me feel safe.
But this time, I needed to be the one to protect him. I'd do whatever it takes to keep Dan and Hazel safe. I couldn't dare let them get involved with this.

I exited the apartment building, stepping down the few stairs onto the pavement. I looked up and down the dark street, illuminated only by a few dim street lights. The area was deserted.
I stood behind a dumpster for a few seconds to make sure Dan didn't follow me. When I didn't see him, I turned the other way and started towards the store.
