Hazel and I were together the rest of the day playing a variety of Wii games, just doing anything to get our minds off of the elephant currently in our lives. I had to stop thinking about it, doing so would only drive me closer to the brink of insanity.

____________

The next few days were spent at home, I wanted to spend every minute I could with Hazel. At one point I considered going out and looking for (y/n) and Winnie myself. The cops clearly hadn't gotten any leads, and I haven't heard any news from them since Phil and I visited the station the day (y/n) went missing. I probably would've made more progress in an hour than they have in nearly two months.

I eventually convinced myself not to, remembering that I needed to be with Hazel. I couldn't keep leaving her with Carly and Phil, I'm sure they were getting tired of it.

I was up making breakfast for Hazel and I as she slept on the couch in the lounge. She fell asleep there the night before and I didn't want to disturb her, so the two of us camped out on the sofa for the night.

I had just cracked a second egg into the frying pan, leaving the remains in a bowl when my phone rang on the counter beside the stove. I answered the phone with one hand while stirring the eggs around with the other.

"Hello?" I answered, holding the phone up with my shoulder as I cracked another egg against the pan.
"Mr. Howell? This is Detective Novak. I need you down at the station, we have a few things to talk about." I heard a male voice at the other end.

My heart just about jumped out of my chest. Had they found something?
"Oh, o-okay, uh. . . when should I be there?" I asked, taking my phone in my hand.
"As soon as possible, thanks." Novak told me before quickly hanging up the phone.

I knitted my eyebrows together in confusion as I set my phone back down. I finished making the scrambled eggs for Hazel and texted Phil. I guess they were going to have to watch her at least once more.

Phil answered quickly and within minutes was over to the apartment. I heard him let himself in the front door and quietly walk through the lounge to get to the kitchen so he wouldn't disturb Hazel while she slept. I looked up and smiled as Phil came through the door.

"Hey, thanks for coming. A detective just called and told me to go down there now, I guess they have something?" I couldn't help but smile as the thought of them finding Winnie and (y/n) crossed my mind. My first genuine smile in almost two months.

"Then what are you still doing here? I'll finish breakfast for Hazel, now go!" Phil ushered me towards the door, smiling as he did so.
"Okay, okay, I'll be back soon." I told him, leaving the kitchen.

I quickly leaned down and placed a kiss on Hazel's head before heading out. I slipped on my shoes, being careful not to fall over in the process, grabbed my jacket and left the apartment.

As I walked down the street, I shoved my hands into my pockets and kept my eyes locked on my feet. I tried my best not to think about what I was going to meet the detective for. I didn't want to get my hopes up just for them to be ripped to shreds, but I couldn't help myself.

'What if they had found them? Even gotten any sort of clue as to where they could be? Oh my god, I can't wait to see (y/n) and Winnie. But, I doubt a detective would be the one to call me. And if the cops had found them, why wouldn't they have told me on the phone?'
