The Inheritance

Chapter Nine

For some reason, some people can’t take the hint and eventually it gets to the point in which Diana is forced to stop teaching and scold whoever was interrupting the class.

I guess Diana is aware of the predicament I am in for once she is done teaching, she says, “Brandon, may I have a talk with you?” before leaving the room.

Glad, I make sure that I have placed everything back into my satchel before following Diana outside of the classroom.

“You didn’t actually want to talk with me, did you?” I say with a small grin on my face.

“Nope, though next time you are on your own.”

“Right, but what should I do until the end of second period?”

“What you want as long as it is not against the rules and not within this room.”

“Well… okay then. Thanks again for the save!”

“You’re welcome,” says Diana before going back into the room and closing the door behind her.

With nothing else to do until second period is over, I decide to head back to my room to switch out the unneeded books.

As I enter my room I can tell that something is amiss for the letters that were on top of my desk has been stacked. After taking a few more seconds to look at my room, it soon becomes obvious that there is no one else but me, which means that one of the staff members probably came into my room and tidied up while I was in class.

Bored, I move to sit down on the bed, dropping the satchel at the foot of it. Only, before I sit down I notice a wooden box placed on the study desk. The reason why I didn’t notice it before was because of the stack of letters being taller than it. With that size of a box, there is only one thing that could be in there. Well, unless if someone got something else for some reason.

With a new spring in my steps, I quickly walk over and sit down at my study desk before opening the wooden box. Inside are the vambraces with a letter placed on top of them. Despite the excitement and the building urge to put on the vambraces, I pick up the letter and read it:

To Brandon Chen,

Here are the vambraces, as requested. Do not worry about the size of the vambraces for they have been enchanted to automatically adjust to an appropriate length and size depending on your arm.

It has also been enchanted so that after you wear it, no one else can remove it nor move it. So make sure that you wear the vambraces right after you read this letter. Additionally, the leather and metal sections will not break due to an enchantment that basically makes it indestructible. I look forward to you using them in the Winter Tournament.

P.S. There is another enchantment on the vambraces as my gift to you. This one is on the house. Also... do not, under any circumstances, let Cecilia have a look at them!

What in the world… is that other enchantment the one that they had discussed a few days ago? Is that why she doesn’t want me to show it to Cecilia? Does Cecilia know a few spells to find out what enchantments have been placed on the vambraces? Damn it, if only Faelania had explained a little more than at least I would have some type of motivation to not let Cecilia see them!

I place the letter inside of the box before bringing out the vambraces from within. The vambrace themselves are made from leather with metal sections placed on top. On the section that lies on my hand however, the majority of it has been indented and covered in glass. Within the glass is a large rectangular piece that has been taken from the gem. Interestingly enough, both pieces of the gem have a red centre with red veins coming out of it. The metal itself has been section in the right areas to allow me to move my wrist without interfering too much. Along one side of the leather are straps and on the other side are holes that have been punched to allow me to strap the vambraces to my arms.
