I hear nothing except for the sound of a few people breathing. My body is lying on a fairly soft mattress that has been elevated and my eyes seem to be stuck together. It takes me a couple of seconds before I am able to slowly open my eyes to see a marble ceiling. Annoyed at whatever was holding my eyes shut, I quickly rub at my eyes in an attempt to wipe it off. After a few seconds I manage to succeed. Sitting up, I take a look around to assess the situation, curious as to where I am.
Judging by the cabinets on the walls along with various objects made out of glass, I may be in the school’s clinic. There are also a few chairs placed near the entrance of the room and sitting in them are Cecilia, Diana, Lily, Brian and a fairly old brunette wearing a white lab coat.
Quietly, I force myself off the mattress and after taking a couple seconds to allow my feet to get used to the cold floor, I move towards Cecilia. Before I even get within two metres of her however she starts to wake, almost as if she unconsciously knew that I was awake.
Upon noticing me Cecilia jumps up from her seat and says, “Brandon! You’re up!”
“Is something wrong? Why do you sound so surprised?” I say, not bothering to remain quiet since Cecilia woke up the others with her exclamation.
“It’s just... the amount of power you used! You should have been unconscious for at least another two days!”
“What day is it anyways?”
“It’s Wednesday, you have been out for a little over half a day.”
“I see... so, did I beat Elizabeth?”
“Yes! Are you sure you are alright?”
Just as Cecilia finishes talking the old lady, who is probably the nurse, guides me back to the bed before conducting some tests.
“Yes. At least I feel alright. Also, did you say that I used a lot of power? Do you mean that I used magic in the duel?”
“Wait, you don’t remember?”
“Not really, I mean. I remember making Elizabeth angry, but aside from that? No. Also, just how was I able to cast magic if I did not have a focus?”
“The gem you had in your pocket acted as a focus. Just where did you find that anyways? I have never seen a gem like that before.”
“I found it the night before the duel. I was taking a short walk on the beach that is located behind the school.”
“Would that mean this is your first time using magic?”
“Um... yes, it was.”
“Well, I suppose that explains why the other professors were saying that your use of magic was highly unrefined and uncontrolled.”
“Yes... but the fact that you have been only out for half a day...” says Cecilia.
“It is highly unusual. I have never heard of someone with such... high recuperative powers. I wonder... how strong will Brandon become if he learns how to control his power?” says Diana.
“Are you suggesting what I think you are suggesting?” says Lily.
“Wait, what? What are you talking about?” I say.
“It is a bad idea since so many things can go wrong... however it is also our best bet since Brandon will not find what he is looking for in the school’s library. On top of that, if he were to become as strong as you think he might become Diana, then he may be able to achieve his goal,” says Cecilia.
“Are you thinking of enrolling me to the Academy of Magic?” I say.
“Yes, they are,” says Lily with a small pout forming on her face.
