The Inheritance

Chapter Nine

As I eat my food, more and more people fill the dining hall.

Eventually Lily, Brian and Brian’s friends enter the hall. After they get their food they come and join the table that I am sitting at, saying hi to me as they sit down. As each person says hi to me, I greet them back.

Time passes by and eventually every single one of us finishes eating our breakfast. I quickly take our plates and place them on the rack before the group separates. Lily goes off on her own since she has her own classes to go while half of the group heads off in another direction. The rest of us have Physical Education next and so we travel to our class as one.

Realizing that I do not have any clothes to change into, I say, “Hey Brian. Are we given clothes for Phys. Ed.?”

“Phys. Ed.? Do you mean Physical Education? Don’t worry about it. There are two different areas for students to change, one for guys and one for girls. Lockers are automatically assigned to a person and there are clothes within for you to use.”

“Oh cool, that’s good to know.”

“Yeah.”

After we enter the building containing non-magical classes, Brian and I separate from the rest of the group before going through a door labelled Men. Inside are rows of lockers however while some are closed, the majority of them are wide open.

“Hey Brian, are the girl’s changing room setup similar to ours?”

“Yeah, why? Are you planning to do something?”

“What? No, of course not. It’s just that if there room is similar to ours, I don’t see how they have enough lockers for everyone inside the school.”

“Oh, that’s simple. The room has been enchanted to change its contents depending on each period. So make sure to take everything with you. Otherwise, you will need to wait until we have Physical Education again to get whatever you wanted out of your locker.”

“Cool. So judging by the lockers there are five guys in this class?”

“Yeah.”

After finding the locker that has my name on it, I notice Brian pressing his palm onto the locker. He waits for a few seconds to pass before he pulls his hand back and almost immediately, the locker swings open. It takes me a few seconds to realize that there is nothing to grab on the locker door. Which means that the only means of opening the locker is by doing what Brian did, which is brilliant, as no one else can open the locker.

Following in the footsteps of Brian, I press my palm onto the locker and a few seconds later I feel a warm sensation develop.

“Just leave your hand there. The enchantment is registering your magic so that you will be the only one who can open that locker. At least... until the enchantment is broken,” says Brian.

I nod my head to let Brian know that I heard him as I keep my hand against the locker. After a few dozen seconds the sensation starts to dissipate. Unsure of what to do, I decide to remove my hand from its location.

At first nothing happens but after a few moments the locker opens up. Inside of the locker are a set of clothes hanged up. I take them out to take a quick look at them before changing into them. Once I am done I place both my clothes and my satchel into the locker before closing the locker door.

The outfit that was inside of the locker is a white t-shirt and black shorts that end just above my knees.

By the time I closed the locker door Brian has already finished changing and is waiting for me by a door. After checking to make sure that the locker door is actually closed, I head over to Brian.
