Out of the Limelight

Epilogue

I did everything to keep myself out of the limelight.

But I didn't succeed.

Hindi ako nagtagumpay. Hindi ako nagwagi. Nabuking kami. Inamin namin ang totoo. Lumabas ang aking pangalan. Maraming nasaktan. Umalis ako. Ako'y bumalik... para sa kanya.

I stare at the man in front of me. He's currently on stage singing his newest hit. He meets my eye and he throws a wink in my direction. That seemed to have gotten the whole arena screaming.

Ngumiti ako at binigyan siya ng isang thumbs up. Tumango siya at naglakad patungo sa kabilang gilid ng stage.

Ang dami naming pinagdaanan. Wala kaming isang taon na magkasama pero ang dami naming pagsubok na naranasan.  

I look around the arena. These are his fans. These are the people that made me go through hell. 

But I learned to forgive them.

Noong umalis ako, napagtanto ko na tapos na talaga ang kwento namin ni Daniel. Tapos na ang mga papel ng mga taong 'to sa aking kwento. 

And believe it or not, my story ended happily. 

Yes, I was able to find myself a happy ending.

Kahit ako, noong simula, ay nahirapan paniwalaan iyon. I didn't get the guy. I left the country with tears falling from my eyes. How could it be happy?

But through the years, I realized that my happy ending didn't need to include Daniel— or anyone at all. It was just about me, picking up the pieces and fixing myself. It was me letting go of the pain and forgiving the people that caused them. It was me freeing myself from the past and accepting what the future holds. Its about me letting  myself start over. My happy ending was loving myself and moving on.

"May gusto akong ipakilala sa inyo, okay lang ba iyon?" Tanong ni Daniel at nagsigawan naman ang mga taga-supporta niya. Dahan dahan siyang bumaba ng stage at pumunta sa harapan ko. Nilahad niya ang kanyang kamay.

"Daniel!" Pinalakihan ko siya ng mata at bahagyang umiling ngunit tumawa lang siya. Siya na mismo ang humawak sa aking kamay at hinila ako patayo.

"KathNiel! KathNiel! KathNiel!" Sigaw ng mga tao doon. Namula naman aking pisngi.

"Baby?" Nakangiting bumaling sa akin si Daniel. Binigyan ko siya ng isang tipid na ngiti at unti unting tumango. Agad naman niya akong hinila paakyat ng stage.

Sigawan ang bumalot sa amin. Nilagay ni Daniel ang kanyang kamay sa aking bewang at lalong umingay ang kapaligiran. Sumiksik naman ako kay Daniel at tinago ang aking mukha sa kanyang balikat.

"Pasensya na kayo, nahihiya pa siya." Natatawang sabi ni Daniel kaya kinurot ko naman ang kanyang tagiliran.

When I went home, I knew that I was to start a new story. And I refuse to let this story go the same way.

"Baby, dont be shy." Bulong sa akin ni Daniel pero dahil may mic siya, narinig ng audience kaya lalong lumakas ang sigawan. "Harap ka sa kanila, dali." Humigpit ang hawak niya sa aking bewang. Napatingin ako sa kanyang mukha at binigyan niya ako ng isang ngiti at tumango.

Dahan dahan akong lumingon sa kanila ngunit nanatili parin akong nakasiksik kay Daniel. Nagsigawan ang mga tao at lalong namula ang pisngi ko. Sigurado akong mukha na akong kamatis ngayon. Nginitian ko sila.

"Baby, say hi." Tinapat niya sa bibig ko ang mic. Kumunot ang aking noo pero tumawa lang siya.

"Hello." Mahinang sabi ko at humalakhak naman si Daniel. 

"I want you to meet Kathryn," Aniya sa mga nanonood. Nagsigawan sila muli. "Ang babaeng papakasalan ko at makakasama ko habang buhay." 

Lalong lumakas ang tilian ng mga tao. Hinawakan ni Daniel ang aking kamay at tinaas ito para makita ng lahat ang singsing na nakasuot dito. Hindi ko inakala na may mas lalakas pa sa sigawan nila kanina. 

Hinila ako ni Daniel para sa isang yakap. Binalot niya ang kanyang mga braso sa aking bewang at hinalikan ang aking sentido.

"I love you more than anything in this world, baby." Bulong niya sa akin.

"You're still the best thing that has ever happened to me, love. I love you." Humigpit ang yakap ko sa kanya at ganon din siya sa akin.

I wont let this story end with out him being my happy ending . . .

Even if that means I have to step into the limelight.

okay so im gonna go and tell you about this story you can feel free to skip haha

the idea of this story started when i heard she dont like the lights by justin bieber. yes, doon nagsimula ang lahat. i was starting to think of possible scenarios and all. then another song came up. uncover by sara larsson. when i heard it, i knew there was a deeper meaning to that song. i knew that i had to write. and thats where out of the limelight started. 

the story was suppose to revolve around their relationship only. doon lang. wala na dapat family background na sobrang ano si kathryn but you see, the times when i was just starting to type and the chapters weren't published, my friend was going through something. and i, not knowing what to say,  started writing and that was the outcome. thats where kathryn's broken-ess came from.

i wont be a hypocrite. if my idols fell in love with someone i didnt like for them, im not gonna accept that person with open arms. but thats not my decision to make. i realized that more and more as i wrote the chapters for this story.

when i started this story, i was unsure of the message i was trying to tell you. but at this point, im positive we both know what it was. and now, all im asking from you is to never forget what this story has taught you. you can forget the characters, the scenes, everything, just not the moral because let's be honest, we'll never know what the future holds.
