My mouth fell to the floor as soon as Zoe had finished speaking. The first thing that flew to my head was Lottie. I needed to tell her. She needed to sort things out with Dan but they would never get the chance if Dan......Died. I can't think of the negative outcome but in reality this was her one and only chance of speaking to him. There came a noise next to me and I could see Alice was crying. Glittering tears fell softly down her cheek. Pulling her in for a warm sweet hug I remembered how close they actually are. They were friends from secondary school; right from the beginning of year 7. They went to the same sixth form and eventually the sane university. They both started YouTube together. They used to have movie nights all the time and they spent hours on end playing xbox. Then I came into the picture and it all kind of stopped. Sometimes I do blame myself for it, but I think to myself 'if Alice really was annoyed with me then she wouldn't love me the way she does now.'
When Alice finished crying I told Zoe to go straight back to the hospital to inform us of any news or information we might want. I promised we would be there soon but I had to do a few things first. As soon as Zoe left, I sat back down next to Alice.
"So do you believe that Dan and Lottie still love each other?" I asked politely.
"Uum, why?" she replied.
"because I think they do. Thi-"
"So do I!!" she said exitedly cutting me off. "We have to do something! I feel sorry for Zoe and Alfie; it kinda looks like Dan and Lottie are both using them to get over each other."
"That's exactly what I think! We have to tell Lottie because this might be the... last chance they get." I could see tears welling up In Alice's eyes again.
"Please don't cry," I whisper into her ear pulling her closer to my chest. "I hate seeing you cry." her body wa still fragile so I gently hugged her.
The phone rang in my ear as I waited for someone to pick up. I saw Alice anxiously waiting as she heard the phone ringing too. I had put it on speakerphone on case I grew stumped at what to say.
"Hello?" Alfie's voice piped up.
"Oh, hi Alfie! Is Lottie in?"
"Umm yeah she is, wait a minute." I looked up into Alice's eyes that reasured me.
"Hey Phil. How are you? How's Alice?" she asked even though Alice and her had spoken late yesterday evening.
"Uh, we are both fine thanks. What about you?"I asked in return.
"Yeah I'm good too, thanks! What were you ringing about?" fear flashed my eyes as I figured out what to say.
"Um, well, I have something to tell you."
"Go on..." she said with a hint of confusion to her voice.
"Well, Dan-" I got cut off.
"I don't want to know anything about Dan, Phil."
"No no no. You really need to listen!" I begged her.
"Phil, pl-"
"Look Lottie, Dan is in hospital." the other end of the phone grew silent so i decided to carry on.
"You really need to go and speak to him! He is very ill and no one knows why. He needs you Lottie and you need him. You really need to sort things out between you." I spoke up before she could speak any more. After an awkwardly long pause I heard a whisper down the other end of the phone.
"I don't need Dan anymore. He doesn't need me."
The phone went dead.
