The next morning, Mary got an email from Diana's new high school saying that she could begin classes the following week and that she'd be assigned to a student at school who could show her to her classes and answer any of her questions. Mary told Diana about the good news on their way to drop off the application at the restaurant.
"Okay, Diana. I have to drop you off at home and go into work today. I think you'll survive a week without me- you can start looking around at other jobs or do some work around the house. That sound good?"
"Yes, Mary. I'll be fine by myself."
"At least for today, could you just stay home and do something productive. You can wait to look at other jobs tomorrow. And please behave."
"Productive? Like what? I can't start my school work yet."
"You'll think of something. Oh, and please do not invite any friends over."
"Okay, Mary. I got it."
Mary dropped Diana off, leaving her alone for the next eight hours. And Diana immediately sat on the couch to play games on her phone.
