Roy's POV

"So you just, punched him?" She asks, laughing quietly

"Yep. I just punched him." I laugh quietly

We're in the back of the van but everyone is asleep except Zach, who's up front with Nova.

"Wow. I would have never guessed." She says

"Well I mean his kid pushed Mimi on the ground. I tried nicely saying that what his kid did hurt Mimi's feelings and he just laughed. So I punched him." I say smiling

"That's awesome." She says laughing

I nod, trying not to laugh.

"So, speaking of Mimi, if you don't mind my asking, where is her mother?" She asks, I can tell she is hoping I won't get mad

At the mention of Mimi's mother, my smile fades.

"You don't have to tell me." She says quickly

"Kara was a great girlfriend. I met her in high school so I guess you could call us high school sweethearts. We graduated at 18. We then started talking about marriage and such. And we had already lived together at the time. And she eventually got pregnant with Mimi." I explain "She was usually always home when I get off work. When she's not home she usually tells me. Sometimes she's out buying things for the baby."

"One day, she was about seven months pregnant with Mimi at the time, I came home from work, and she wasn't there."

Walking in, I set my keys on the end table by the font door.

"Kara?" I say out loud

Huh. That's unusual. Usually she's greeting me at the door.

I walk to the kitchen.

Nothing.

Maybe she's in the bedroom or bathroom.

But the bathroom door is open and empty when I look inside.

There's no one in the bedroom.

I reach in my pocket and get out my phone.

To Kara: Hey babe, I'm home. Where are you?

No response.

I'll just wait a while and then text her again.

My stomach growls.

So I go into he kitchen and fix a sand which.

My phone rings and I answer it quickly, hoping it was Kara.

But it wasn't.

"Hey big bro!" Nova says on the other line

"Oh, hey." I say, not so excited.

"Who peed in ya Cheerios?" She asks

"Something's wrong. Kara isn't home. She's always home. I'm not trying to be over protective but I'm just scared." I say

"Okay slow down. Did she say anythin to ya last night?" She asks

"No. Everything was fine." I say

"Well then wait a little while and then call the police. They can't fill out a missin person until it's been 24 hours." She explains. "I'll be over in a few."
