Zach's POV
I can tell she is hurting.
No matter how hard she hides it.
She just keeps dazing out the window.
I look at her.
She has her short brown hair in a pony tail.
She has some loose hair in front of her ears.
She has a short sleeve purple shirt on and a black jean skirt.
She has one hand on the steering wheel and one on her thigh.
You can see sadness and determination in her eyes.
I look in the back of the van.
Macy, Lexi, and Kiki are all leaning on each other asleep.
Bethany is leaning on Jason.
She is asleep.
Jason is awake.
Hillary is leaning on Leon.
They are both asleep.
Mason and Stewart are just sitting there silently.
Misty is asleep leaning on Jeb's shoulder.
Jeb is awake.
I turn back around.
We have the radio on.
Demons by Imagine Dragons comes on.
I look at Nova.
A stray tear falls down her cheek.
I put my hand on hers and intwine my fingers with hers.
She looks up at me.
I give her a slight smile.
She smiles back.
She turns her head back toward the road.
••••••TIME SKIP••••••
I stop the car in front of Saren Mall.
I nudge Nova.
She is asleep, leaning on my arm.
We switched places after a while so I could drive and she could sleep.
"Nova." I say
She moves slightly.
I nudge her shoulder without knowing what would happen.
"Ouch!" She says and grabs her shoulder as she sits up straight "What do you want?" She snaps and then takes it back immediately "Sorry."
"It's okay. Hey whats wrong with your shoulder?" I ask
"Nothing." She says
I'm not convinced.
"Seriously Nova tell me whats wrong with your shoulder" I say
She looks out the front window.
"Oh look we're here." She says, completely changing the subject.
Before I can say anything, she gets out of the car.
I get out.
We walk to the back of the van and she opens the door.
All of the others get out.
We all walk to the mall entrance
"Alright, here's the plan" Nova begins
I smile.
She always has a plan for everything.
Nova's POV
"Alright, here's the plan" I begin
I look at Zach.
He is smiling at me.
I smile back and give him a confused look.
Why is he looking at me like that?
"Anyways, we split up. Mason, Leon and Stewart you are in a group. Jeb and Misty, you guys are in a group. Bethany, Hillary, and Macy, you guys are in a group. Kiki and Lexi you guys are in a group. Zach you are with me." I say "And that should do it."
"What about me?" Jason asks
Whoops.
"Ummm....I guess you can just be with me and Zach." I say
"Fine." He mumbles
"Okay. Mason, your group needs to find water and refreshments." I say and he nods. "Jeb and Misty, you guys find boy clothes and girl clothes. Bethany, Hillary, and Macy, find food. Kiki and Lexi find medicine. And my group will find ammo and weapons. We meet back here at sun down. Deal?" I ask
They all nod.
"Any questions?" I ask
"Should we have a code word or something on case one group gets in trouble and needs help?" Leon asks
"That's actually not a bad idea." I say
He smiles.
"Okay the code word is....Newf." I say
They all look at me like Im crazy. Kiki giggles.
"Just go with it." I say "Anymore questions?"
No one speaks.
"Alright then. Good luck and I will see you guys at sun down." I say
They all nod and everyone splits up into their groups and walk away.
My group just stands there for a minute.
I grab Zach's hand for comfort.
Jason looks at our hands and doesn't look happy so to keep from causing a fight, I let go.
"Lets do this." I mumble to myself
And we walk into the mall.
