The gentle sway of the taxi made the chocolate milk in my hand ripple slightly. I tightened my fingers around the carton, my thoughts tangled between excitement and nervousness.
Harin and the others had left for the dress shop earlier, completely engrossed in their wedding planning. Which meant it was the perfect time to sneak away.
I lifted my phone, glancing at the address Han Wool had sent me in the morning. My fingers hovered over the screen before I texted him.
Ye Na: I'm almost there. Are you inside?
No response.
I frowned, slipping my phone back into my pocket as the taxi slowed down in front of an unfamiliar place.
The guesthouse stood quietly under the late afternoon sky. It was a quaint little building, far away from the bustling city. The area was eerily still, with no signs of neighbors, no other houses in sight-just vast open space, trees lining the distance.
A gust of wind sent my hair fluttering around my face as I stepped out of the taxi. I looked around, feeling an odd sense of isolation.
I pulled out my phone again and dialed Han Wool.
Ring.
Ring.
No answer.
I pursed my lips, trying again.
Still nothing.
A weird feeling settled in my stomach. He told me he'd be here, right? I hesitated at the doorstep before lifting my hand and knocking.
Silence.
I knocked again, this time calling out softly. "Is anyone here?"
Nothing.
I chewed my bottom lip, shifting on my feet. Maybe he was inside but didn't hear me?
Glancing around one last time, I hesitantly reached for the doorknob.
To my surprise, it turned easily.
The door creaked open.
I stepped inside cautiously, my eyes scanning the space. The guesthouse was warm and cozy-wooden floors, soft lighting, a plush sofa sitting in the center of the room. There was a faint scent of something familiar, something undeniably him.
But where was he?
I took another step, looking toward the hallway when-
Strong arms suddenly wrapped around me from behind.
A gasp slipped from my lips as I was lifted off the ground.
"Han Wool!" I yelped, laughing. "Put me down!"
A deep chuckle vibrated against my back. "Not until I prove how much I missed you."
Heat crept up my neck.
I hesitated for a moment before mumbling, "I missed you too."
He hummed in satisfaction, carrying me easily across the room before setting me down on the sofa. His hands stayed on my waist, his nose brushing against mine as he hovered close.
I swallowed, my heart hammering against my ribs.
His lips curled into a soft smirk. "I was waiting for you."
"You could've answered your phone," I muttered, pretending to be annoyed.
He grinned. "Where's the fun in that?"
