That was when her father died.
Cheonga sat in the dimly lit hospital corridor, her hands gripping her arms as if trying to hold herself together. But nothing could stop the way she shook.
Her breath came in shallow, ragged gasps.
Her eyes-red, swollen, burning.
Her father was gone.
She hadn't saved him.
She hadn't even been able to.
The realization crushed her.
The guilt, the grief-suffocating.
She should have never gone there.
She should have never dragged him into this.
If she had just stayed away, if she had just accepted her fate-
Her father wouldn't have been lying on a cold hospital table.
Lifeless.
Cheonga buried her face in her hands.
A sob ripped through her.
But she didn't have time to grieve.
Not yet.
Because there was still someone else missing.
Someone whose name wasn't on any hospital record.
Someone who had been shot, bled out in front of her-
And then vanished.
Han-Wool.
No hospitals had reported his name.
No doctors had called.
No ambulances had listed him.
He was nowhere.
And she was running out of places to look.
She had to find him.
She couldn't lose him too.
------
Her group moved fast.
Jun was the one calling hospitals.
Jiwoo trying to pull every string she could.
Seo-Hyeon and Hee-Won checked local reports.
Ga Min, holding Cheonga's hand, saying indirectly that everything will be alright.
There is Ms. Lee-she drove.
She had rushed when they reported what and happened.
No one asked why she was speeding.
They all knew.
Because no one wanted to say it out loud.
That Han-Wool might already be-
No.
She wouldn't think that.
She refused to think that.
Her hands trembled as she pressed her forehead against the cold window.
The night outside was endless.
She felt like she was drowning in it.
Jiwoo's voice cut through the silence.
"Another hospital just confirmed-he's not there."
Cheonga clenched her teeth.
Jiwoo hesitated.
"I called five others before this," she admitted. "They said the same thing."
