Of all the songs in the world, his playlist decided this was the one to play?
I could feel Han Wool stiffen beside me, his hand hovering over the screen.
He swallowed. "I, uh—this wasn’t intentional—"
I could hear the smirk in Adam Levine’s voice as he continued singing.
"Just like animals, animals, like animals-mals—"
Han Wool let out a strangled noise.
I would have laughed if I wasn’t currently melting into the passenger seat, wishing I could just disappear.
With a jerky movement, he tried to skip the song.
Tried.
Because his fingers missed the screen three times before he gave up entirely.
His ears were bright red.
I sighed, reaching over and pressing the "next" button for him.
The car was filled with nothing but the sound of our breathing for a split second.
Then the next song started playing.
"Hear the sound of your body drip, drip, drip
As I kiss both sets of lips, lips, lips…"
My hand froze on the car’s center console.
Han Wool stiffened so hard I thought he might crash the car.
The air shifted.
Thick. Stifling. Deadly.
"I ain't afraid to drown
If that means I'm deep up in your ocean, yeah…"
"OH MY GOD."
I slammed the "next" button, my entire face on fire.
Han Wool choked on his own spit.
"WHY—" He shot a panicked look at the screen. "WHY IS THIS EVEN IN MY PLAYLIST?!"
"THAT'S WHAT I WANT TO KNOW!" I shrieked, pressing myself against the car door like I could escape from this entire situation.
Han Wool frantically grabbed the phone. "I-I don’t even listen to this—!"
"LIAR!"
"I’M NOT LYING!" His ears were glowing red now.
I crossed my arms. "So who put it in your playlist, then? A ghost?"
"I—I don’t—" He looked like he wanted to die. "Maybe my friends pranked me—?"
I narrowed my eyes. "Or maybe you listen to this in your alone time."
"YAH!" He shot me a scandalized glare. "I do not—!"
I gave him a look.
He groaned, covering his face with his hand.
"That Min Hyun, the fucker!"
I cleared my throat, trying to hold my laugh.
Neither of us spoke after that.
The car ride was silent.
Not the comfortable kind of silence. No, this was the excruciatingly loud kind. The kind where every tiny movement felt ten times more noticeable.
I swallowed, sneaking a glance at Han Wool from the corner of my eye.
Only to find him already looking at me.
We both snapped our heads forward.
The tension was unbearable.
