(S02) Chapter 10

I should.

Instead, my brain short-circuits.

He wipes his mouth with the back of his hand before leaning against the table, arms crossed.

His eyes lock onto mine.

"You again," he says.

I narrow my eyes. "What's that supposed to mean?"

He shrugs, smirking. "Just didn't expect to see you here. Thought you were too busy saving lives or something."

I roll my eyes. "Unlike some people, I have a social life."

He snorts, the sound almost amused. "Yeah? That why you're sitting here alone in my house?"

I open my mouth, ready to fire back, when I remember-

Right.

I am alone.

I clear my throat, sitting up straighter. "Your mom told me to wait. She went to take a call."

He hums, watching me. Too closely.

Too curiously.

Like he's trying to figure me out.

I don't like it.

Maybe I like it.

Desperate to change the subject, I say the first thing that comes to mind.

"I didn't know you rode motorcycles."

He raises an eyebrow. "You keep tabs on me now?"

I scoff. "I was just making an observation."

He shrugs.

I grip the edge of my seat, my heart pounding.

This is it.

A chance to test him.

To see if he remembers anything.

I tilt my head, feigning casual curiosity. "Where'd you learn?"

He hesitates, just for a fraction of a second.

Then-

"A friend taught me."

A friend.

A friend?

My fingers dig into my palm. "And before that?"

He gives me a lazy smirk. "Why? You wanna learn?"

"Answer the question."

He leans forward, resting his elbows on the table. "Why do you care?"

My breath hitches.

He watches me, something unreadable in his gaze.

"You're acting weird," he says suddenly.

I snap out of my thoughts. "What?"

"You keep looking at me like I owe you money or something."

I glare. "Maybe you do."

He chuckles. "Doubt it."

Silence stretches between us.

My mind races, trying to find another way to test him.

But before I can, he pushes off the table, standing up straight.

"Well," he says, slipping his gloves back on. "This was fun, but I need a shower."

I cross my arms. "Go ahead. No one's stopping you."

He grins. "Careful, Ye Na. That almost sounded like an invitation."
