Okay. Good.

I should be focusing.

I should be planning.

I should be running through dosages, protocols, patient positioning.

But my mind betrays me.

It drifts. Wanders.

To him.

To them.

I pause, fingers hovering over the keys.

Are they really alone?

Not even a driver with them?

I swallow hard.

No. No, no, no. What am I even thinking?

Are they gonna walk hand in hand?

My stomach twists.

Are they gonna take photos together?

A sour taste fills my mouth.

Are they gonna have that stupid romantic eye contact?

I squeeze my eyes shut.

Are they gonna kiss?

No way. No way.

He can’t do that.

I snap my laptop shut, shoving it aside.

I grab my phone instead, because clearly, my brain has no intention of cooperating with medical studies tonight.

My thumb hovers over my social media.

I stares at my old post.

The words still sting. Still feel too raw, too real.

I exhales and starts typing.

So… it’s been a few days, and things have only gotten weirder. Not only does he not remember me, but I’ve also realized that the people he calls his parents are not the same parents I knew. He told me his mother passed away years ago, but here she is, alive and well, being the sweetest woman on earth. His father? Also a different man.

And here’s the worst part—he’s engaged. To my cousin.

Yeah. My first love is marrying my cousin. And I’ve had to sit through family dinners pretending everything is fine when I know it’s not. I can’t explain it, but something is wrong.

It’s not only just that he forgot me. It’s like he’s a completely different person. The way he acts, the things he says—it’s the opposite.

I don’t know what to do. Am I going crazy? Is this just a twisted coincidence, or is something bigger happening here?
