All along there were an invisible string tying you to me

I pull up and park next to Paceys truck, Doug is indeed not home.

I go up and knock on the door. I don't get the door opened, but hear yelling from inside.

I usually hate just walking into people's house without being let in. But that was the only way for Pacey, making me do something I hated.

"Look who made it" he jokes.

"What's that smell" I ask. "It actually smells good. That's weird, it's coming from your direction. That's never happened."

"I am making some spaghetti" he tells me as I walk into his kitchen and sit at a table near him.

"Pacey, this isn't a date."

"I know, I just wanted spaghetti. Let me live."

"And I will not be sharing from the same bowl as you Pacey, I won't fall for that."

"Who do you think I am Daphy, someone trying to actually go out with you? You couldn't pay me to do that."

"Thanks. Well I was just making things known. So how well do you know your lines?"

"As I said before, I only know them with you. Not with anyone else."

"That's a bit clingy don't you think? Maybe if we run them through enough, you'll be good."

"Okay try me."

I grabbed his booklet and read off a line. He bounced right off of me. I did another, he did the same. We went in like this for a while, he did quite well.

"The dinners done" he tells me after we end one of the scenes.

We dish up and sit on the floor, eating using the coffee table.

"See I really don't know what the problem is" I tell him. "You are doing great. You don't even have the booklet to read off of, you're just doing it."

And he really was doing great. He was perfect. That is in the way he could read lines.

"But you aren't there to see me mess up at rehearsals, over there I suck" he admits to me.

"You don't suck Pacey, you're just needing a bit more practice. I have to practice my routine a lot in order to get it down. If I want to know my whole dance, I have to get it down."

"I actually have a question about that."

"What is it?"

"Do you actually enjoy ballet?"

"Do I enjoy ballet? I love ballet. It's like one of the only things I love in this world."

"Well I wasn't too sure about it. I feel like the other extra curriculars you do you don't like."

"Oh I hate student council and debate, I hate them so much. More than I hate you."

"Ouch. Well why the hell do you do them?"

"I need something for my college applications. And I need extra curriculars for my mom and dad to be happy."

"Yeah I don't have anything like that. I mean I'm not sure if I'll go to college."

"Pacey I can help you plan for college if you need" I suggest to him.

"Yeah I don't do planning" he laughs.

"Oh whatever, but I'm sure you could go to a college."

"So what routine are you practicing for" he asks, changing the conversation.

"Oh I have a recital coming up, so I'm practicing for it. I have never done a dance alone on stage, so I'm terrified."

"Would you show me?"

"Show you?"

"Yeah me" he says smiling. "Who else?"

"I'm not showing you, definitely not you. I'm not even that good at it."

"Oh you're totally lying, you are good at it. There's a reason she gave you a solo dance."

"I'm just not good at it really. You would not want to see me keep tripping on my feet at the last step."

"I would pay a million bucks to see you fall" he laughs. I hit his arm. "Well if I can't see it now, where was my invite to the recital?"

"No where, I'm not letting you see me do it."

"Oh I'm coming Daphy, with front seats. I'm definitely going, maybe I'll invite everyone. All of them, sitting up there with me."

"No you are not, it's not like it's a big deal anyways. You don't have to go" I try to play it off.

"Nice try, I'm going."

"In your dreams."

We spent the rest of the night chatting instead of actually doing work, like promised.

We really meant to, but his grades have been getting better so it doesn't feel too necessary. And he's got those lines down, he will do great. I can tell. And I'll be there at the show anyways, front row. Waiting for him to fall. That would make my year. Watching him trip in front of everyone.
