Chapter Twenty-Three

All along there were an invisible string tying you to me

I could feel fear all over my body when I realized it was the day they were coming back.

My parents got up and went straight to the restaurant, they acted weirdly to each other.

I was home alone, and I didn't know what to do with my time. I mean Everything I was afraid of was coming back.

I cleaned the house a bit, got ready myself as well. Was I not supposed to look nice? Was I trying to repel him? I really wasn't sure what I was doing.

I get a call from the restaurant.

"Hello" I ask into the phone.

"Hey sweetheart, have they made it back yet" my mother asks.

"Umm no, not yet. I can call you when they do if you would like."

"Ooh, yes please Daphne. Thank you! Oh, Jen wants to talk to you."

"Oh okay, love you mom!"

"Love you too sweetheart" she says and I hear the phone shuffle a bit.

"Are they back yet" she asks me.

"Not yet" I answer. "But Jen, I'm so nervous. What happens when we see each other again? Will we talk again? I don't know how this works."

"Daphne" she begins to tell me. "Do not worry, everything will turn out alright. If you are ready to talk to him, you will. If you aren't just try to avoid till you can't or are ready."

"Okay, well I will definitely not talk to him today, I really couldn't."

"Ooh, I have to go. I am so sorry but call me and tells me what happens."

"Okay bye" I say, but she just hangs up.

I waited for hours, anxiously pacing and overthinking what would happen.

I watched TV, I listened to music, I read, I got in my car and drove around a bit just trying to calm my nerves and wait for them.

I really was scared what would be when they came back, I was so anxious.

Finally, after hours I decided that I should just shower instead of worrying. Showers do help me think anyways.

I start the shower and get everything going, this will be relaxing.

I am about ten minutes into my shower when I heard a car drove up and made its way to my driveway. I get out of the shower and look out the window.

Everyone crowded out of the huge van and made their way inside.

I finish my shower as quickly as I am able to and get dressed. I don't have enough time to straighten my hair or do anything at that matter, I look like a mess. But I wouldn't say terrible, just my hair is frizzy. I at least had time to apply mascara quickly. I put my slippers on and take a minute to breathe before I go.

They are all sitting on the couches, talking and laughing. Pacey is the one talking the most, I can hear it. I walk into the living room where they all are and smile. They all look at me.

Joey and Stephen are next to each other, Dawson on the chair right next. Andie, the guy, and Pacey are all on the same couch. Andie is in the middle, her demeanor seems to be into someone on the couch, I assume Pacey.

"Hey Daphne" Dawson says excitedly as I walk into the room.

"Hey" I say anxiously waving to everyone.

We make eye contact, we hold it for a good while. I am a deer in headlights.

Part of me wants to march over and slap him, the other wants me to kiss him. Part of me wants to run away scared, the other wants him to run away with me.

I break the eye contact and look at Dawson.

"I'm going down to the restaurant, I'll see you later. Bye guys" I wave.

Joey and I look at each other, she gives a confused look. I just mouth to her "sorry" and grab my purse. I walk out the door, to my car and drive off.

I get to the restaurant and Jen looks concerned.

"What are you doing here" she asks.

"I got too scared to be there, I drove here" I tell her anxiously.

"Hey sweetheart" my mom walks by to see me.

"Hey mom, they are here" I tell her.

"You couldn't have called" she laughs.

"I was so excited I had to tell you in person" I joke.

I sit at a table alone and drink tea that they serve. Jen comes over and talks to me when she can.

"Maybe they've all gone home" she suggests. "You might be good now."

"Maybe, I hope so. I just want to get home and relax."

"You might be able to head home and be good."

"I think I'm going to" I tell her.

"I would say you could come over tonight, but Henry and I have something planned tonight. I'm sorry."

I go back to my car and sit there for a while. Is he still at my house?

I drive back to my house, I'm sure things are alright.

I park, I hold my breath, I walk in and head straight upstairs.

I pass by Dawsons room, I look in.

As I look in, he and Pacey are watching movies and laughing. I go as silently as I can, but they see me. He sees me.
