"So, why did you, save me?" Pyrrha said softly while fiddling with the blanket in her lap.
"Because, I still need you to be my Fall Maiden." I take a breath. "It was foolish of you to sacrifice yourself," Pyrrha's head drops in guilt. "But also brave." Her head perked up interested in what I had to say.
"We showed our hand too early. What Ozpin should have done was move Amber to a safer location after figuring out the enemy was already inside the school. Yet, he decided to take his time and choose to push this on you instead." I shook my head. But then again, moving Amber would have been a whole task of its own.
"But I don't understand. Didn't Professor Ozpin ask you to do this?" She asks curiously.
"Yes and no. Ozpin knows nothing about my plans." I replied. "Ozpin likes to be in control of the situation, because he thinks he knows everything. He has knowledge and skill yet, he is severely guarded and will only tell the bare minimum to those he has in his inner circle."
Pyrrha shifts in her seat uncomfortable. "So, you're acting on your own."
I nodded. "Yes, now there is a new player acting on the sidelines and I plan to have a trump card of my own." I lean forward resting my arms on my knees. In a much softer tone I explain. "Pyrrha, I'm not forcing you to do anything. If you would like to back out you can. I didn't save you just to use you for my benefit."
I wouldn't want Pyrrha to think this her only choice. Free will is established to everyone. And I won't manipulate or shape those close to me for my own gain. But I believe Pyrrha will do this because of who she is.
Pyrrha raised her gaze to the window. "You said I'm dead to the world. Does that mean my friends think so as well?"
I could only nod. My heart is already broken by keeping them separated.
"Will I ever see them again?" She turns back to me. Hope in her eyes.
I can't deny her. I know she will see them again. "Yes, but if you choose to help me, you won't see them anytime soon. There are a few things I want to confirm before I reveal you to the world."
"If it will help, then...Yes, I will become your Fall Maiden."
I smile, grateful that she is helping me. My lips drop dreading on telling her the truth of our situation. "This Evil we are fighting is named Salem. She is cunning, patient, and powerful. The worst part, she's immortal."
Pyrrha blinked a few times while her mouth dropped. "What?"
Telling the story about Ozma and Salem to Pyrrha was pivotal in my plan. I believe I can trust her enough to understand what lies at stake. "Oz and Salem knew each other, and they didn't start as enemies either."
So, that afternoon I told her Ozma's story as best as I could remember it. There weren't too many points to go across. Pyrrha's hope in her eyes faded away as I continued and ended with no way for Salem to die.
Pyrrha's grip on the blanket tightened. "So, what do we do? If we can't destroy her, then what hope do we have left?"
"There is a way. It's risky, but it's better than nothing." And unfortunately, the only plan I got.
