Chapter 9: Separate

Brielle's POV

*One Week Later*

"Hey baby." I smiled as I answered the phone.

"Hey babe." Andy said. "I've been thinking about Christmas coming up soon. Since we'll both be in Cincinnati, do we want to go ahead and meet families then? Split Christmas up?" He asked. I felt a pit in my stomach as I tried to find the words. "Brielle?"

"I'm sorry Andy. I don't want the first time that I meet your parents to also be the first time I meet the rest of your family."

"I understand. Taking it slow. I got it." He said. "I, uhm, told my parents about you at Thanksgiving."

"Really?"

"Yeah, they're really excited to meet you when the time comes." He said.

"That's good." I said quietly.

"Did I come up with your parents?"

"Uhm, no."

"Oh."

"Sorry Andy. My parents are still pretty unhappy about my move to LA, so I try to keep them in the dark as much as possible until absolutely necessary. I'll tell them at Christmas, I promise." I reassured.

"Well if we have a chance, I'd love to meet up with you while we're out there."

"We'll see." I said with a smile.

*3 Weeks Later*

"See you on our flight back." I smiled at Sienna as my parent's car pulled up. Every holiday, Sienna and I fly out to Cincinnati together, get picked up by our parents, and then fly back home together.

I threw my suitcase into the trunk of the car and got into the backseat.

"Brielle!" My mom exclaimed.

"Hi mom, hi dad." I said as I buckled my seatbelt, my dad pulling away from the curb.

"How was the flight?" My dad asked.

"Fine, no problems." I said. We drove to their house and I brought my suitcase up to my childhood bedroom. I took a moment to get ready and then my parents and I went out to dinner. As we sat at the table, Andy's words swirled around in my head.

"Brielle, are you okay?" My mom asked.

"I have a, uh, boyfriend." I said. I took a deep breath, trying to wrap my head around what I had just blurted out. I braced myself for their reactions.

"Oh." My parents said.

"It's pretty new. We met at the Bengals game I went to a few months ago. He's actually a Cincinnati native as well but lives in LA now."

"Interesting. He didn't want to come to Christmas with you?" My mom asked.

"Like I said, it's pretty new. He actually asked if we wanted to spend Christmas together, but I told him I wasn't ready for us to meet the families, especially not at a big holiday like Christmas. He's a really good guy. I'm, uhm, in love."

"Brielle. Love? I thought you said this is new!" My mom exclaimed.

"Pretty new. We've been dating for about 4 months, but have known each other for 5. I know it seems really early to be talking about love, but when you know, you know. He's really good for me. He makes me really happy. Please just give him a chance. You haven't even met him yet." I pleaded.

"If he really makes you happy, then we support you." My dad said.

"We just want you to be happy." My mom said.

"I am." I smiled.
