The room fell silent save for the echoes of my declaration. Even Baron Von Kri seemed stunned into speechlessness, his mouth hanging open in disbelief.

With each passing second, tension ratcheted up another notch until it became tangible - an entity unto itself.

He finally regained composure enough to respond with a weak laugh that echoed throughout the hall mockingly.

"No one has that kind money,"

His chuckle turned into derisive snorting while shaking head in mocking sadness as if pitying me.

"Your wealth can't buy everything..."

'Does he think I'm some joke?!'

❥ Penelope's POV:

"1 billion gold!"

I watched in shocked horror as the bidding war unfolded on stage. I could hardly believe my eyes and ears!

Two powerful nobles were fighting over a young girl like some sort of trophy, driving up the price to outrageous heights. This wasn't just about money or status anymore; it seemed more like twisted game played out in public arena for their own amusement.

A few silent bids of tears streamed down my cheeks, anger simmering beneath surface at injustice unfolding right before my very eyes.

'It's not my business. I'm here to survive,...'

Both nobles represented everything despised in society - exploitation disguised as power struggle. How could they stand there and treat humans like mere commodities?

They might have thought themselves above others but they weren't so different from slave traders after all; only difference lied in terms used rather than method employed.

Disgust churned within gut acidic taste burning inside throat lining, glaring at these two behind my mask.

'... Pedos,...'

❥ (Y/N)'s POV:

"It can,"

I countered icily before turning toward stage.

The auctioneer goggled at me, struggling for words beyond stammering protests.

He then raised a hand, declaring decisively amidst din dying down:

"1 billion gold... sold!"

He pointed at me triumphantly announcing victory and yet my satisfaction was marred by bitter irony of situation.

"She's mine,"

Inside, I cringed at the thought of taking possession over someone vulnerable like this girl but there was no turning back now - 1 billion gold!

Only one question remained: what should I do with her now?

The girl quivered under scrutiny now doubly intense following unexpected development.

'Why the hell do I feel someone digging a hole through my head-'

Bun-Bun peeked out from safety net offered by my pocket just to whisper:
