If I told you I love you

If I told you I love you, would you say it back?
Or would my words just hang there, floating off track?
The fear of rejection is heavy in my chest,
But silence is a burden too heavy to rest.

A secret kept inside, a love that's left unspoken,
Leaves the heart bewildered, shattered and broken.
I yearn for your response, a glimmer of hope,
To lift my spirit up, to help me cope.

But what if your reply reveals a different tune?
Would I be crushed by silence, or suffer too soon?
The uncertainty is daunting, the hesitation profound,
Yet I stand here before you, with my heart unbound.

For the worth of my love lies not in your reply,
But in the courage I summoned, in the tears that I cried.
I'm better for having loved, regardless of your reaction,
For love is never wasted, a timeless satisfaction.

So if I told you I love you, it's not just for your reply,
It's for the strength it took, no matter if tears fill my eye.
For love is an emotion, a gift to be spoken,
With or without your response, my heart will remain open.
