MAYBE IT'S NOT TOO LATE

The following day Patrick and Jillian meet at his house with their lawyers in otder to discuss the divorce arrangements

"I will make it very easy for you, it's an agreement between the two of us... we will barely need these lawyers"

Jillian nods not convinced at all

"I just want all my cars, the Dempsey centre, the house in Utha and the one in Maine, you can have the rest” he says confident

he knows he is giving Jillian a lot more than he needs to but his kids would still have it and, him and Ellen together would have way more than all of that

"what are you trying to do? soften me by leaving me all those things?" Jillian raises an eyebrow

"not everyone only cares about material things like you Jillian, I also have other interests in my life, I will still have way more than I need and I don't plan to stop working any soon"

"of course because you would also have Ellen's things" Jillian rolls her eyes

Patrick decides to ignore that comment

"I want the splitted custody of the twins, Talula can decide by herself but she will probably follow them when she is home... we would divide their home time 50/50, one week end each and same for Hollydays until they go to college"

"oh... so this is why you were so generous before, you are buying our kids?” she says sarcastically

"50/50 is fair Jillian" he rolls his eyes "I am not keeping them away from you, I just don't want you to keep them away from me, I am their father"

"were you their father also when you were screwing another woman?”

"I was a bad husband but this has nothing to do with our kids, I was always present for them"

"you are hardly ever home, 50/50 is so much more than you see them now” Jillian points out

Patrick is this close to lose it but he knows he can't, that's what she wants

"I was escaping from you, not from them. I won't need to go abroad that much now that no one is suffocating me” he smirks at her

"you- you are unbelievable" Jillian says angryly

"you started it"

"what if I don't sign?" Jillian grins

"there is no way a lawyer would let you go away with all these things, it wouldn't be smart of you, I have been more than generous"

Jillian looks at her lawyer who nods meaning that what Patrick is saying it's true

"it would be smart of you to sign” Patrick insists

"where is the trick" Jillian looks at him with reluctancy

"there is no trick, I just want to do this in a very pacific and friendly way. Listen... I don't think we will stay really friends but I want us to be civil for the kids. You know I always hyped you up as a mother, you are an excelent mother to them and seeing that you hate their father will just makes this more painful”

Patrick is very surprised too when Jillian just listens to him, agrees and doesn't interrup him so he goes on

"I am sorry for hurting you, during our whole marriage I made you feel like you were not enough and that's not how it's supposed to be. I never did it on purpose but I am the reason why you are so insecure”

Jillian's eyes are now starting to water

"you keep saying that everything was bad"

"I do not, of course in more than twenty years we had our moments, especially family moments more than couple ones but... what I am trying to say is that... this is not how it should be”

Jillian rolls her eyes but he decides to just keep going

“I should help you with your tutorials because I want to spend time with my wife, not because I just want to please you, you should come to my prèmieres because you love seeing me acting, not because you want to claim your wife position and these are just examples”

"okay, got it”

"are you signing?”

"yes”

his heart starts racing as they both sign their divorce papers. He feels his chest getting lighter and lighter... he is finally free

He is now only looking forward his dinner at Ellen's house but it's very soon so he decides to call Kate and give her the news

"hey stranger, I knew you would have called sooner or later” Kate giggles at the phone

"Kate, I... I am free”

"what?" Kate frowns

"Jill and I signed the divorce papers a few minutes ago” he says relieved

"because of that kiss?"

"the kiss was just the straw that broke the camel's back, this situation became a whole scandal already and this time I can't lie or deny anymore, I have to face it"

"wow, I... finally, would it be wrong if I said that I am so happy for the two of you?”

"a little but it's okay" Patrick laughs

"what did Ellen say? about the divorce?"

"she doesn't know yet, but I will see her for dinner and I will tell her” he explains

a huge smile on his lips

"oh... do you want me to watch the kids and give you some alone time. You could bring her out for dinner"

"no, she wouldn't want that. I don't want her to think that her kids are not welcome, they so are... and I don't have any problem in having dinner with them"

"okay”

"I just wanted to tell you first because you have always been our bigger supporter”

"thank you, it means so much to me" Kate says happy for her bestfriends
