Sky Davis
New York City, New York

"Why the fuck won't you tell me?" Sky shouted, watching as Skylar simply wiped tears from her eyes before starting to collect all the pregnancy tests on her counter and throwing them into the bin.

"It doesn't matter who the father is, Sky. I'm not keeping the baby anyway." Skylar pushed her out of the way, exiting the bathroom but Sky was hot on her heels.

Emotions were running high between the sisters and Kalea sat in the living room, she knew better than to get between a sibling argument but she also worried that Sky would take it a notch too far. However, it was one of those things that she'd have to sit out of, they both needed someone who didn't have an opinion to lean on.

As much as Kalea was Sky's girlfriend, she was Skylar's friend before that.

"Since when did you keep secrets?" Sky asked, an exasperated expression on her face as she watched her sister slip on some sneakers before snatching her keys in the kitchen counter.

Skylar's eyes trailed to Kalea, who was sitting on the couch. The living room and kitchen were merged together so it made it pretty awkward that she could hear their entire argument. She simply sighed before heading out the door, slamming it behind her.

Sky stared at the door for a second, quietly hoping that her sister would come back and they'd talk. Alas, she didn't come back.

"Let her go, Sky. She's a grown woman." Kalea spoke up, she sat up from the couch and walked towards Sky in the kitchen. She sat on on the counter and opened her arms, watching as Sky slowly moved towards her before they began to embrace one another.

"Why...she's never been the type to keep things from me." Sky trailed off, "We always told each other everything."

Kalea rubbed her back before pulling back and pressing their foreheads together, she kissed Sky's nose before she leaned over at the fridge and pulled out a bottle of water. She watched with narrowed eyes as Sky silently sipped the water, leaving half of it for Kalea to drink.

"Pregnancy is a big thing." Kalea shrugged, "You need to respect that she's not ready and just wait until she comes to you."

The silence was thick as Sky sighed, she kissed Kalea's cheek and stormed off to the balcony, probably off to smoke a cigarette. Kalea spent enough time to know that Sky couldn't handle her emotions, she often turned to smoking and drinking to think through her issues, an incredibly bad habit that she'd picked up so young.

Kalea could feel the hard marble under exposed thighs as she took in the silence of the apartment. She pushed herself off the counter, pulled down her shorts and locked the main door before she got started on dinner.

If...

When Skylar decided to come back, she'd at least have a meal waiting for her. Kalea tied up her long, knotless braids in a high bun before she began to dice some onions. She was planning to make a quick meal and get the heck out of here, keeping Sky in this apartment would only make Skylar stay away.

They didn't want to drive her out of her own home.

Kalea slumped onto the bed, glancing at the empty spot beside her where Sky would normally be laid down. She frowned before getting off the bed once more and stalking off to her bookshelf in her office room, grabbing any book because she needed to keep her mind occupied as she tried to sleep.

She'd pleaded and pleaded with Sky but the woman was just too darn stubborn to leave the apartment. Her emotions weren't as intense anymore but there was a flare in her eyes and Kalea knew there was no point in even trying.

They'd lived 21 years without her and Kalea would allow them to resolve their issues in the way that they'd always done.

She couldn't help but feel at fault for the whole confrontation. Kalea was the reason they'd visited Skylar's bakery, maybe if she hadn't been craving her doughnuts, the sisters wouldn't be tearing each other apart.

Sighing, she opened the first page and began to read. She could feel her eyelids begin to weigh down her eyes and Kalea accepted it. Falling into a deep slumber.

Sky had pulled all the pregnancy tests out of the bin and she couldn't help but sigh. She stared at them for a while before she tossed them back in the bin, feeling defeated.

Skylar was pregnant, again.

Kalea was right, Skylar was an adult and she could handle her own business but Sky knew her sister better than anyone. She knew why this pregnancy was a big deal and why she couldn't just go home and cuddle her lover, leaving it as a problem for tomorrow.

This was something that needed to be addressed now. She needed to ease her nerves.

Sky shot up from the couch and pulled her phone out to see that it was 3am, she could hear as she could hear her sister shut the main door and lock it before she placed her keys on the counter. She stood up and walked over to see Skylar leaning over the counter with her head in her hands, her body shaking from tears.

Carefully, Sky rubbed her sister's back before slowly asking, "I just want to know one thing."

"Is it the same as last time?" Sky asked with a low voice, her question hanging in the air for a while as Skylar sniffled into her arms.

...

"No, it's different."

And with that, Sky sighed with relief. Even if she didn't know who the father is, she could live with that.

I'm embarrassed but I had writer's block. I'm back and ready to finish this book and start another tho!
