Harrison's Yellow

The yellow rose bush

Bloomed in our backyard today.

It also began to bloom one year ago.

On the day my wife passed away.

It is a strange synchronicity

That my wife and my father

Both passed on the sixth of June.

Seven years apart.

I planted this rose in 2002,

Twenty-one years ago.

It has been a faithful companion.

The first rose to bloom every spring.

It has always been

The last harbinger of spring.

In anticipation of what

Summer is soon to bring.
