Chapter 31: Baby, thats three words

Start from the beginning

"Kate, slow down!" I yell.

"I can't, I have to get my essay to Mrs. Smith before class starts!"

I chase Katie through the hall get plenty of glares and, "Watch we're your going jackasses."

Katie slaps the essay onto Mrs. Smith's desk as the final bell rings.

"One second later and you would have been getting a zero, Mrs. Fleming."

"I know but I wasn't." Katie deadpans.

"Too bad." Mrs. Smith mumbles.

Katie
Throughout English, I thought about my conversation with Tyler.

*Cue flashback* (dramatic music)

"Hey, Kat."

"Hey, Ty."

I open my locker. "Kat, you need to tell Derek about Wyatt."

I step back and look at Tyler. "And why should I do that?"

"Because I'm tired of lying to him. Every time we hang out he asks about you and Wyatt."

I look at the ground. "What if I don't want to tell him."

"Then I will. You know he gets his cast off tomorrow right?" Tyler says coldly.

"Yes."

"He's not going under. You're acting like he could die." I say dryly.

"Please just tell him, okay?" Tyler says.

"Fine." I say through my teeth."

*flashback over*

I guess he's right I should tell Derek. Hopefully, he won't be too weirded out.

Wyatt meets me outside of my last class before lunch.

"Just Wyatt, where are we going tonight?"

Wyatt flashes his signature smile. "That's for me to know only."

I groan. "Wyatt, I hate surprises."

"Good, that makes this more fun."

Back to Wyatt
Katie grabs my arm to stop me from waking in the lunchroom.

"Wyatt, I need to tell you something," Katie says quietly.

I lean down towards her slightly. "What's wrong?"

"I invited Ryan and Gloria to eat lunch with us."

Katie folds her hands together and smiles slightly.

I don't know what to say.

Katie frowns. "I'm sorry I overstepped."

She pulls out her phone. "I'll text Tyler and tell him to not let them sit with us," Katie states frantically.

I place my hand over her phone. "Kate, it's fine. I'm sorry, I was just surprised that's all."

I don't think I've ever wanted to kiss someone so bad before in my entire life. Well, I'm not counting Saturday when we were in my kitchen.

"Are you sure?" Katie asks hesitantly.

"Yes!" I give her a quick hug.

I walk towards the lunch line and Katie joins Izzy, Ryan, and Gloria at the table. I see Tyler scoping mashed potatoes onto his plate.

After I acquire my food I sit down beside Katie. Gloria is on her other side with Ryan sitting on a chair at the end of the table.

Izzy is across from Katie and Tyler sat beside her.

"I don't believe Wyatt this morning. Because of him, we had to run four extra laps." Ryan complains.

Everyone laughs except me. "Believe me, I could barely crawl out of bed this morning."

Ryan looks at Izzy. "How much are y'all paying him to say that?"

"From what I see, horseback riding is pretty easy. All y'all do is sit there."

Tyler's eyes widen and he keeps eating. Izzy and Katie share the same unreadable look.

"You're a wide receiver, right?" Katie asks.

Ryan nods his head.

"I guess it would be easy for you to tell since you do the same thing. You run to where Wyatt says to. You sit there and wait for the ball to fall into your hands." Katie says smugly.

Izzy laughs, but Tyler doesn't even bat an eye.

"Babe, you just got roasted." Gloria mocks, in between giggles.

Ryan smiles. "Wyatt, never lose this one, she's special."

I know.

It was nice to see a girl finally match Ryan in his teasing.

We continue talking and eating.

Katie taps my shoulder. "Do you want to share?"

She is holding up a bag of Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal.

"Don't tell me your one of those people who eat cereal without milk?" I ask frowning.

Katie grins. "Who wants soggy cereal?"

"I guess you make a good point."

Katie sets the bag down on the table. "Lift your arm."

I look at her confused. "What?"

Katie shakes her head. "Honestly, playing football has made your brain slow."

She lifts my left arm. "See, hold your arm here."

She slides under my arm and sits down on my left knee and wraps my arm around her waist.

I completely freeze and I feel the tips of my ears turn pink.

"Now was that too much for your little brain to comprehend?" Katie asks sweetly.

Yes, my brain now feels like mush.

I smirk."If you wanted to sit on my lap, you could've just asked, baby."

Katie ignores my comment by eating the cereal.

Is it bad I don't want lunch to be over?

Katie fits perfectly on my lap.

We take turns eating handfuls till I eat the last one.

She reaches her hand into the bag and looks at me. "You ate the last piece?"

I give her a, 'like Duh' look.' "Um, I thought we were sharing?"

"Have you ever heard of the word 'being a gentleman'?" Katie asks fighting a smile.

I tilt my head to the side. "Baby, that's three words."

Katie shakes her head while giggling. "You're an ass!"

I wrap my other arm around Katie and pull her closer to my chest, placing my chin on top of her head.

Lord have mercy, she smelt amazing, like sweet cotton candy.

"Yeah, but you love it."

We sit like that for the rest of lunch. I catch Izzy wiggling her eyebrows at Katie.

I think I'm starting to like 'dating' Katie a lot more than I should. It is going to be hard to be friends after all this.

I don't see Katie anymore after school because her class had let out early and she didn't have time to meet us at the lockers since she had to ride Ripley.

Me: I'll be at your house at five to pick you up.

Kate: Okay
Kate: Wait, what do I wear!?

Me: Whatever. It doesn't matter.

Kate: That's a great help! I'm serious! Do I wear jeans or what?

Me: 🙄 Jeans will be fine.

I wanted this chapter to be only in Wyatt's POV but I needed to explain Tyler's convo with Katie.
