This is a really good question in my opinion. Like, If a villain is a villain just because it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. And in order to not be a cliche and have the villain be a villain because of a tragic past sounds...well kinda dumb in my opinion. So, In this list I'll give you reasons why a villain is..well a villain!
Reason #1: They do bad things because they're scared something bad will happen if they don't do them
Reason #2: They are misinformed. An Example is the fact that someone could've lied to them about the Protagonist and now they're scared. Now they do bad things because of the lie they've been told.
Reason #3: They want to change but are being pressure by others to be evil
Reason #4: They have a goal and will do anything to achieve it (anything as in murder or something extreme)
Reason #5: They are desperate for attention or validation so the 'dark side' does that for them
I hope this helps! And Happy Preptober!
