Heyaaaa

I'm back peepzelz, really sorry I haven't updated in forever (but still in 2022 tho lol (barely))

As you may have noticed by now, my updates can be VERY inconsistent, but I swear that I will finish this book no matter what okay?? Like even if I'm gone for five months (or longer) I promise you I'll be back. (Not that I'm actively planning on being gone for five months but in case that does happen somehow)

I just wasn't very sure how to write this chapter. Like I knew what was going to happen but I couldn't figure out how to write it. Plus school exists and it consumes time like I consume chocolate.

Also I'm focusing on Melissa for a bit longer because I made her a little too important to the story oof

There's also a little Kai update bcs Imgaey_69 wanted it :)

By the way, the end is nearing!!!! Only a few more chapters and then it's there, I've already written it out and I'm really freakin excited

ALSO OMG I'M SO CLOSE TO 1K READS LIKE Y'ALL THANKS SO MUCH

IGNORE MY RANT AND ENJOY THE CHAPTER <3

Yes, it's still Melissa's POV, I'm (not) sorry

I open my eyes and the first thing I think about is how I've never slept this well in my life.

Then everything comes back to me.

I'm laying on the fur coat of an oversized bear.

I shoot up immediately, then try my best not to seem too afraid - it can probably sense it - while simultaneously calming myself down; I fell asleep on this animal. If it wanted to kill me, I would've been dead by now. If it wanted to eat me, I'd be eaten by now.

Unless it's a really cruel being that wants me to be awake as it kills me.

Eh, probably not, right?

I get my answer when the bear licks me. Or I should say, SALIVA WASHES ME. I feel disgusting, though I'd rather feel disgusting than have this thing kill me.

It likes me, I'm assuming. But I have to get going. I still have no idea where exactly to, but I have to.

Though it's a better idea to fuel up first. The cave seems a safe place to do that.

I decide to go outside for some food. It's dangerous out there, of course, but my people have always gotten their food from the woods. Not from as deep as I am, but there's got to be something edible here. And at least now I have a place to sprint back to in case that panther decides to attack me again. I just won't go too far from the cave.

"Hey, uh... bear?" I try to communicate. "I'm gonna go outside. For food." I point at myself, then outside, and mime eating. I stare at the bear for a little while. I'm not really sure why, maybe I'm subconsciously expecting a response. "I'll be back."

I turn away and walk outside, but when I decide to look back for a moment, the bear is closer to me than I expected. It's following me. "You're coming with?" I ask with a surprised tone. It's comforting to talk out loud like this creature understands me. Makes me feel less alone.

The bear lets out a soft growl and seems to nod at me. It makes me smile for a moment.

I turn around again and start walking, knowing full well I have no idea where to get myself food. But the bear starts walking before me, so I follow it. I really don't feel safe here without it anymore.
