"So, you left him there to take care of horse poop?" Odette couldn't help but laugh as she listened to David tell her how he was starting to teach Henry how to ride a horse

"So, you left him there to take care of horse poop?" Odette couldn't help but laugh as she listened to David tell her how he was starting to teach Henry how to ride a horse. "I can imagine he was very impressed with his first lesson." She chuckled again before taking another bite of her burger.

"It's an important step in establishing a bond with the horse. You should know this." David scolded her, but the smile on his own face showed just how amused he himself was. "You're sitting on my files." David pointed out soon after, tugging on the papers Odette had trapped by sitting on top of his desk at the sheriff's office while they ate their lunch together.

"Sorry." Odette mumbled out with her mouth full, jumping down from the table and forcing herself to sit in one of the plenty of available chairs instead. "And I know it's an important step. I'm just saying, as someone with some teaching experience, you don't tell a kid 'I'm gonna teach you to ride a horse' and then proceed to tell him 'You're not riding it today'."

"Well maybe you should be the one to teach him, since you're so much better at it." David teased back. It was obvious both were enjoying a small moment of normalcy between all the craziness, squabbling away like siblings rather than having to prevent some kind of new catastrophe from happening within their town.

"Maybe I will teach him." Odette nodded her head.

"How to fall off of one." David mumbled, but still loud enough to be heard. The words made Odette dramatically gasp, pretending to be offended as she threw one of her fries at his face. It was a heavy sacrifice, but one that had to be made to defend her honour.

Just as David was about to retaliate, their squabbling was brought to an end as the sound of the phone ringing filled the sheriff's office. It forced David to let go of his own fries as he wiped his hands on one of the napkins before reaching over to answer the call.

Focusing back on her burger, Odette didn't listen to David as he spoke. However, while it was easy to ignore the beginning of the conversation, it was hard to miss the panicked look which came over David's face as whoever was on the other end of the line shared the reason for their call.

"What's going on?" Odette questioned in a worried tone as soon as he hung up the call. And David himself was on the move before she could even get all of her words out, grabbing his jacket and rising from his chair while the food was now entirely forgotten.

"Whale's been attacked." David shared, and it was enough for Odette too to rise to her own feet. She may not like the guy, but if someone in their town was attacking people they needed to get to the bottom of it as soon as possible. And with no dance classes scheduled, Odette's job for the day was not that of dance teacher, but sheriff's deputy. And it was time to do their job.

And it was time to do their job
