Just thought I'd post this: some songs in the style of the various FMA characters that would really impress me at an audition! Some of these songs relate lyrically to the characters, while some just fit their voice type and overall vibe.
Edward Elric: Late teens. A highly expressive tenor with a wide vocal range, contemporary edge and a confident belt.
Suggested audition songs: "Goodbye" from Catch Me If You Can, "If It's True" from Hadestown, "My Shot" from Hamilton, "Santa Fe" from Newsies, "This World Will Remember Me" from Bonnie and ClydeAlphonse Elric: Early teens. Pure-voiced alto or boy soprano with a thoughtful, wise-beyond-their years quality.
Suggested audition songs: "Castle on a Cloud" from Les Miserables, "The Life I Never Led" from Sister Act, "Momma Look Sharp" from 1776, "Out There" from The Hunchback of Notre Dame, "The Round Shouldered Man" from The Secret GardenRoy Mustang: Early thirties. Dramatic baritenor who can come across as equally commanding and vulnerable, must have intense vocal power at both extremes of their range.
Suggested audition songs: "Bui Doi" from Miss Saigon, "Hurricane" from Death Note, "If I Can't Love Her" from Beauty and the Beast, "The Impossible Dream" from Man of La Mancha, "You're Still Here" from The Clockmaker's DaughterRiza Hawkeye: Late 20s. Mature mezzo-soprano with a quality of quiet strength and suffering. Should possess a warm low register and a strong belt for the most intense scenes.
Suggested audition songs: "Dangerous to Dream" from Frozen, "Easy as Life" from Aida, "The Hill" from Once, "I'm Not That Girl" from Wicked, "Sonya Alone" from Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812Winry Rockbell: Late teens. Bright, vocally agile contemporary soprano belter with strong mix.
Suggested audition songs: "A Part of That" from The Last Five Years, "A Story of My Own" from The Clockmaker's Daughter, "My Grand Plan" from The Lightning Thief, "On the Steps of the Palace" from Into the Woods, "Watch What Happens" from NewsiesAlex Louis Armstrong: Early 40s. Robust, comically operatic tenor- the vocal embodiment of serotonin.
Suggested audition songs: "Friend Like Me" from Aladdin, "I Am the Very Model of a Modern Major General" from The Pirates of Penzance, "The Lees of Old Virginia" from 1776, "Oh What a Beautiful Morning" from Oklahoma, "Rest and Recreation" from The Hunchback of Notre DameFurher King Bradley: Early 60s. Bass from the depths of hell.
Suggested audition songs: "Hellfire" from The Hunchback of Notre Dame, "His Kiss, the Riot" from Hadestown, "Molasses to Rum" from 1776, "This Jesus Must Die" from Jesus Christ Superstar (most of these could work for Father too)Envy: 20s. High, somewhat raspy rock tenor or alto with a flamboyant, gleefully wicked quality.
Suggested audition songs: "Big News" from Parade, "I Don't Care Much" from Cabaret, "Now It's Just the Gas" from Little Shop of Horrors, "The Whole Being Dead Thing" from Beetlejuice, "You'll Be Back" from HamiltonIzumi Curtis: Late 30s. Strong yet maternal mezzo or alto with a folkish edge.
Suggested audition songs: "I Didn't Plan It" from Waitress, "If You Knew My Story" from Bright Star, "In My House" from Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812, "Me and the Sky" from Come from Away, "The Modest Modiste" from The Clockmaker's DaughterLan Fan: Late teens. Crystal clear, for-the-rafters soprano belt with intense vulnerability.
Suggested audition songs: "I'd Give My Life For You" from Miss Saigon, "I Don't Know How to Love Him" from Jesus Christ Superstar, "Not While I'm Around" from Sweeney Todd, "You Don't Know This Man" from ParadeLing Yao/Greed: Bright, charismatic tenor with a soaring range, must be able to alternate between lighthearted and serious and play multiple personalities (Greed's vocal style is lower and more rock-tinged).
Suggested audition songs: "Confrontation" from Jekyll and Hyde, "The Money Kept Rolling In (And Out)" from Evita, "My Petersburg" from Anastasia, "One Jump Ahead" from Aladdin, "You Gotta Die Sometime" from FalsettosLust: Early 30s. Sultry alto with a dark, shimmering vocal tone.
Suggested audition songs: "Bring On the Men" from Jekyll and Hyde, "Charming" from Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812, "(Death Is) Just Around the Corner" from The Addams Family, "Mein Herr" from Cabaret, "Mortals and Fools" from Death NoteMaes Hughes: Early 30s. Lyric tenor with a warm, gentle quality.
Suggested audition songs: "A Bit of Earth" from The Secret Garden, "Dear Theodosia" from Hamilton, "Gliding" from Ragtime, "To Break In a Glove" from Dear Evan Hansen, "You Can Do Better Than Him" from Bonnie and ClydeMay Chang: Pre-teen. High belt and lots of spunk required.
Suggested audition songs: "I Know It's Today" from Shrek, "I Know Things Now" from Into the Woods, "The Lamest Place in the World" from 13, "Naughty" from MatildaOlivier Armstrong: Early 40s. Commanding, muscular alto possessing both grit and beauty.
Suggested audition songs: "All Falls Down" from Chaplin, "Get Down" from Six, "The Last Midnight" from Into the Woods, "Rainbow High" from Evita, "Right Hand Man" from Something RottenScar: 40s. Powerful, classically-tinged bass with an aura of severe burden.
Suggested audition songs: "Coalhouse's Soliloquy" from Ragtime, "Deep Into the Ground" from Billy Elliot, "Epiphany" from Sweeney Todd, "Pilate's Dream" from Jesus Christ Superstar, "Stars" from Les MiserablesSolf J. Kimblee: 30s. Rock baritenor with an anarchistic edge and a knack for showmanship.
