‘I have noticed that too,’ Poppy said. ‘Usually by now I’ve had at least one or two first years who try to duel – usually Gryffindors and Slytherins.’

‘That might be because they have yet to be taught magic,’ Umbridge pointed out.

Minerva snorted, ‘you clearly have not been around enough children. Not knowing magic does not stop them from trying them out.’

‘Especially the “cool” spells,’ agreed Filius. ‘No matter how many times we warn them against using magic that they have not been taught they still try.’

‘And usually end up in the hospital wing,’ muttered Poppy. ‘Although, that hasn’t happened yet this year.’

Filius blinked, ‘that’s a surprise.’

‘Well, it might help not having a bunch of Gryffindors daring each other to do the “cool” spells,’ Pomona smiled.

‘Or Ravenclaws trying experiment,’ Bathsheba returned.

Filius cleared his throat, ‘I think we are getting off track. But the point is that you believe that the new year system is providing a good environment.’

‘Yes,’ agreed Charity firmly.

Umbridge huffed, ‘it’s far too early to say that. Classes haven’t even started yet.’

‘That is true,’ agreed Filius with a smile. ‘But I thought you would be happy to report that so far, the trial run is going well, as this new way of doing things was the governor’s brainchild, was it not?’

Umbridge flushed and refused to say anymore.

‘Anyway, how are your students settling in?’ asked Filius.

‘Some bouts of homesickness,’ Charity said.

‘Quite normal,’ Filius said. ‘I would be more concerned for those that don’t miss home.’

Charity nodded seriously.
