‘Now, I don’t need to know whether you are guilty or not – that is for the trial to determine. But if you are found or plea guilty then there may be people calling for your expulsion. If we can prove that you are at the very least attempting to turn over a new leaf, then we might be able to argue that. But if not-‘

‘So, keep my head down and don’t get into any fights,’ Ron said morosely.

‘Precisely,’ Babbling said.

‘Fine,’ Ron said bitterly.

‘And, Mr Weasley, how are you coping?’ asked Babbling.

Ron just blinked.

‘I know I have been hard on you … given the circumstances,’ Babbling said. ‘But I am your Head of House your welfare is my concern. And I know you’ve had a change of circumstances, your parents and sister have been arrested on capital offences, and your former brothers have … left. I can’t imagine that’s easy.’

Ron blinked but couldn’t bring himself to say anything.

‘Now, I know we don’t know each other,’ Babbling continued. ‘But if you ever want to talk my door is always open.’

Ron thought about it for a second, ‘why is Professor McGonagall leaving?’

Babbling blinked, ‘ah … she resigned … if you want to know why you’d have to ask her. I am sure she would be happy to talk to you if you wished. We are aware that the transition is not always going to be smooth. And that’s okay. Change is hard and painful but sometimes its for the best.’

‘I don’t want anything to change,’ Ron said voice breaking.

‘I know,’ Babbling said softly. ‘But it has to-‘

‘DON’T SAY IT’S FOR THE BEST – MY MOTHER AND SISTER ARE GOING TO BE EXECUTED!’ shouted Ron.

Babbling sighed sadly, ‘I’m not going to tell you that that is for the best, nor that that is in any ways okay! I certainly don’t think your sister should bare the blame – she is a child. Just don’t let their bad choices define you. And it’s okay to be sad and angry, but don’t let those negative emotions define you.’

‘How can they not?’ asked Ron.
