"A storm is coming " Elena frowned forlornly as Isabela gathered their things

"We should get going" She mumbled casting a glance at the darkening sky "There's not much cover here"

Elena nodded and started calling for Furia but the horse was nowhere to be heard or seen

"She must have gone home already" Elena sighed "She doesn't like storms"

Isabela smiled softly "Well at least one of us will stay dry"

Elena chuckled "We can still make a run for it"

"There's a place we can take shelter in"
Isabela grinned "And we can still have that picnic"

Elena smiled "I'm in"

"Let's go then" Isabela impulsively offered her hand to Elena

Before it had dawned on her she felt warm and soft skin stroking her own

Isabela started to feel flustered as she looked down at their now intertwined hands

Her chest was feeling strange again and her face felt awfully hot, the unsteady weather must have taken a toll on her.

Elena smiled and tugged on her hand a little "Uh yeah let's go..." Isabela mustered

They ran together, careful not to pull too hard on the other.

Their destination was considerably close and they made it out before the rainfall

"Just in time" Elena huffed with a grin and took a moment to observe the place they were in, an old abandoned house with missing doors and windows even some parts of the roof and walls but it still provided enough shelter.

"How do you know about this place?"

"My cousin and I used to play here when we were little" Isabela explained and pointed at a wall "You see there?"

"Lola and Isa" Elena read the engraved names

"Then came our little siblings and they also joined in" Isabela chuckled as she  pointed at the other wall containing all their names

"Must've been fun" Elena smiled hovering a finger over the letters

"It was" Isabela nodded, some of those joyful memories flashed back.

For a moment she stood there staring at the wall until the rain pattering above them reminded her of the present and with a shake of her head she went over to unpack the things she had brought.

Later when they had set one of the blankets on the ground
Isabela unwrapped the dessert and placed it between them along with the orange juice bottles "I know that it's not a lot for a picnic" Isabela started

"This looks delicious" Elena looked at her with an earnest smile

Isabela blushed slightly and waited with anticipation for her to give it a try

And to her alleviation Elena's reaction to the taste seemed good  "Did you make it?" She licked her lips and Isabela's stomach flipped "Uh yes...Do you like it?"

"Me encanta!" She smiled "And the juice is amazing. Your hands must be really talented"

"Um my mom taught me how to cook, I did burn the kitchen a few times in the process " Isabela chuckled nervously

"I still burn it" Elena pouted playfully, shivering slightly as the chilly wind blew inside

"Oh, here" Isabela noticed the goosebumps on her arms and swiftly wrapped a blanket around her "Antonio was right" She whispered taking the remaining quilt for herself

"Thank you Isabela " Elena sweetly smiled and hugged the blanket closer to her face.

The night was upon them when the rain finally stopped, they had talked about Elena's mother encouraging her to learn how to cook and the countless recipes she had set fire to, and Isabela had shared some of her own funny doings in other tasks and how her dad was the one to keep out of the kitchen at all times.

"Maybe you can teach me how to cook" Elena had suggested lightheartedly

Which of course Isabela was more than happy to do so "In the outdoor kitchen" She chuckled

"Of course, and a bucket with water just in case"

"Just one?"

Elena gasped "I'm not that helpless" She giggled "Well a tiny bit"

Isabela laughed warmly "I'm sure we'll be fine"

Elena nodded but her wide smile faltered when she realized how late they had stayed out "Oh! I should take you home...I wouldn't want your parents to get mad at you because of me"

"Yeah, it's a bit late" Isabela rubbed her neck sheepishly "...Are you free tomorrow?" Their day had been cut short with all the going around to avoid getting caught up in the storm

"I am" Elena didn't miss a beat

"We could go for a walk in the morning if you want"

"I do" Her eyes lit up "I'll meet you behind your house?"

"Yeah" She nodded with a small smile playing on her lips "I'll wait there"

"Should I bring some of my famous dessert?"

"Emm..."

"You'd have to eat it all not to hurt my feelings" She teased

"You know, now that I think about it I might be busy tomorrow"

"Wow..." Elena cackled "It's so unfortunate that you'll miss my delicious blob"

"Very unfortunate indeed"

Still laughing they began picking up the scattered things and once they had everything ready they set off into the dusky night

"It was fun" Elena looked at her with soft eyes "Thank you"

"I had a great time" Isabela returned the grin as they walked side by side

But the path was barely visible and it had turned muddy and very slippery...A small disaster was bound to happen.
