Emily's POV
We're finally back home. We got in close to midnight last night and Mara fell asleep in our bed
I also go back to work in the morning; I believe JJ is as well. She is just working from the office this week and next week she will be going back into the field with me. I know she is nervous about it but better to go ahead and get the hard part over with
JJ and Mara are still sleeping and since we got in late I'm hoping mara will sleep a little longer anyway.
I'm usually an early riser so it's not unusual for me to be awake before the both of them
I made sure to get out of bed carefully and made sure not to wake either of them and made my way to the kitchen for coffee. I really needed coffee
After making coffee I started on breakfast and not even 5 minutes later JJ had came out from the hallway
"I figured you would have slept longer" I say as she pours herself a cup of coffee
"Well if you would have stayed in bed I would have" she smiles
"Well then I'm sure we can relax out here for a little until Mara wakes up. We can just warm breakfast back up" I say and she nods
We both grabbed our coffee and went out to the living room
I sat down on the couch first and JJ sat in between my legs and laid into me
"Are you ready for work?" I ask her
"Yes. Take two. Now I just hope we don't get any unexpected phone calls. I don't think I can handle that again" she says
"I know... but Friday is our court date. And Delilah said it's just a formality now" I assure her
"I mean... I know that but I'm still more worried than I should be" she admits And I press small kisses against her head
"It will all be okay" I say
"And.... My mother wants to meet Mara. She was upset that I hadn't told her to begin with" I say. The only reason my mother found out was because we needed a lawyer. And hers was good.
"I'm fine with that" JJ tells me
"You sure?" I ask and she nods
"Yea. The only person I don't want her meeting is my mother" she explains
"Speaking of. Maya wants to talk to her. I don't get it. Why would she want to talk to the person who just gave her away" she sighs
"I didn't see that one coming. But, I guess that makes sense. She wants clarity. She wants her questions answered" I say and she nods
"She asked me to go with her" she whispers, I know JJ doesn't want to be anywhere near her mother
"Yea? What did you say" I ask
"I told her I would think about it and to let me know when" she says and I kiss her head
"I know that is a big step for you" I say
"I just, I'm still upset about what happened. And I never wanted to see her again. But if this is something that Maya needs I will do it" she says and Mara comes out from the hallway with poppy in her arms
"Come here ladybug" JJ smiles and opens her arms as Mara walks over to us
"Did you sleep good?" I ask and she nods
"So me and mommy go back to work tomorrow" JJ says
"With me?" She ask
"You are going to hang out with Penny while we work" JJ explains
