Chapter 35

Emily's POV

"Can you go wake Mara up while I put the rest of the clothes away?" JJ asked me

"You want me to wake the child?" I question and she laughs

"Yes. We need to leave soon so go wake her up" she tells me and I give her a questionable look before walking down the hall to maras room.

Not only did I not want to wake her up because I have heard stories about when you wake kids up they just become nightmares but also I didn't want to freak her out with me waking her and not JJ since she is more comfortable with her

When I walked into maras room she was sleeping with her arm holding her stuffed sloth close to her

I sighed, not wanting to disrupt the peaceful state she was in and gently ran my hand up and down her arm

"Mara.. it's time to wake up" I say and she moves side to side before rubbing her eyes and opening them. As soon as she seen me she kind of backed away. Ouch

"I want JJ" she says quietly and I sigh and nod

I left her in her room and walked to Ours and JJ was putting a pair of Jeans into her dresser drawer

"Did you wake her?" She asked and I nodded and sat on the bed

"She wants you. She backed away when she seen me" I said trying not to sound too upset

"Em... she loves you. She just woke up and probably wasn't expecting you to wake her. I should have thought of that" she. Says placing a hand on my knee before walking out of the room

Mara is still scared of me and I don't know what to do to change that

I laid back on the bed and JJ came back in with Mara a few minutes

She had on black leggings, and a cheetah print top, with brown sandals

I sat up when they walked in and JJ sat down next to me with Mara in her lap

"Hi Emmy" mara smiles

"Hi Mara.. I'm sorry for scaring you" I say softly

"It okay" she giggles and proceeds to tell me what her and JJ did while I was gone

When we got to the office JJ was the one that was nervous. We were sitting in the in waiting room and she was bouncing her knee with Mara on it

"Hey" I say softly and she looks over at me

"It's going to be fine" I assure her and she nods

"I know.. but I'm still nervous" she tells me

JJs POV

"Mara?" We heard the nurse call and I looked at Emily before standing up and following the nurse back the hallway.

I don't know why I was so nervous for this. It's not even my appointment

" can I get her date of birth?" The nurse asked

"April 17th 2017" I confirms Mara has just turned 4 only a month before the incident, seeing as it's the middle of July now

"Perfect, we're going to stop here so we can get her height and weight, then a quick vision test" the nurse says and I put mara down and help her stand on the scale
