Emily's POV
It's just past midnight now and I am getting up to answer my phone. Who even calls at this time of night?
"Hello?"
"Hi, it's Delilah, .. I am so sorry it's late but I have news on Maras adoption and I figured you would want to know"
"Yea.... Um okay, it's fine"
"Amy is taking action. Unfortunately it's all happening pretty quickly... court will take place 9 am on Friday... now since it is past midnight if it is okay with you and your wife I would like to come by tomorrow and give a little more information"
"Yes of course. In the morning?"
"Yes, I can be there at 8"
"That's perfect"
Okay.... Friday. Two days. It's all happening too fast. Way too fast
Luckily JJ was still asleep and just as I was about to lay back down I heard quiet cries coming from Maras room,
I walked down the hallway and Mara Was on the floor sitting and crying
"Hey, what's wrong baby?" I ask and pick her up, noticing she has wet pajama bottoms
"I sorry" she cries and holds tightly To my neck as I cut her light on
"It's okay. It was an accident. Let's get you cleaned up and we can go sleep with momma" I say and she just cries into my shoulder as I walk around her room getting a new pair of pajamas and underwear out
"You want to get in the shower quick?" I ask and she shakes her head
"No no please I sorry" she cries and I sigh and rock her slowly
"Okay... you don't need to but we have to wash off okay?" I say softly and she nods
She let me wash her off and I put her dirty clothes on the floor since I would need to put those along with her sheets in the wash
"Alright, ready to get dressed?" I ask her, she was just standing on the vanity in the bathroom in only her underwear
"No I don't want it" she says and I nod, deciding now is not the time to pick a fight over clothes
"Are you sleepy?" I ask and she shakes her head
"No sleep please" she says and I sigh but nod and we go out to the couch and I sat down with her in my lap and pulled a blanket over us
"Did you have a bad dream?" I ask and she nods against my chest
"What happened?" I ask,
"Died... I no want you to die" she says and starts crying again
"It's okay... it's okay.... I'm okay. I'm not going to die" I assure her and rub her back and she moved closer to me, not realizing why until I noticed she was seeking comfort from the skin to skin
She was only in undies and I had on pajamas pants and a sports bra
"Okay, okay" I say and move to where I was laying on the couch and she was now laying on top of me, her cries slowly subsiding
" you feeling better now?" I ask and she nods
"Good, now close your eyes. I'm right here, Emmy isn't going anywhere" I assure her and rub her back under the blanket until she falls asleep with me quickly following
JJs POV
When I woke up a few minutes ago I was surprised to not be next to Emily, and even more surprised that Mara hadn't woken me up
Once I had woken myself up I walked down the hall and to Maras room, her sheets were in a pile on the middle of the floor along with her pajamas she was in last night
Coming to the conclusion she had an accident I went ahead and threw everything in the wash,and walked out to the living room
It was a little past 7 now and I couldn't help but smile at the sight in front of me
Emily was on her back asleep on the couch with Mara on top of her, their blanket kicked to the floor
I quickly took a picture and laid the blanket back over the both of them and went to make some coffee along with breakfast
Not too long after Emily walked into the kitchen holding a sleepy Mara
"What time is it?" Emily ask
"Almost 7:3o" I tell her
"Shit. Uh. Delilah will be here at 8" she says
"What?" I ask.. why didn't I know this?
"She called at like midnight and said she will be here at 8" she tells me and I sigh
"Okay.. we'll let's just eat then we can get ready" I say and we sit down at the table, Mara still in Emily's lap
Deciding not to mention it I just sat her food down in front of her along with Emily's
Mara took her fork and began to eat, I think it surprised both Emily and I but nonetheless we smiled at the action
After breakfast Emily stayed behind to clean up and I took Mara to get her dressed
When we got to her room I sat her on the dresser and she looked sheepishly at her bed
"Hey... it's okay. It was just an accident and it's all good" I smile and move her hair out of her face and kiss her nose as she giggles
I picked out a cute little dress, the top part was light pink while the bottom skirt was a darker pink with unicorns and I also put a pair of shorts on her
"Beautiful" I smile and kiss her head and take her to my room so I could get dressed, just a simple outfit, black jeans and a blue top
I quickly brushed through my hair and Maras while Emily got dressed and I put two braids in Maras hair
"She's here" I breathe out, hearing the knock and I open the door and allow Delilah to come in while Mara hid her face in my shoulder
"You remember Delilah?" I ask her and she nods
"Me and Emmy have to talk to her, do you want to play in your room?" I ask and she shakes her head
"Out here?" She ask and I nod
Emily Delilah and I sat at the table while Mara played in the living room
"I know this is not a conversation you want to hear but, I figured I would let you know what's going to happen on Friday" she sighs
"What's Friday?" I ask
"When Delilah called me last night she said we had a court date... which happens to be Friday" Emily tells me
"That soon?" I ask
"Unfortunately... Amy had it sped up since she is wanting to get back to Seattle... with Mara" she says
"Now I have been in contact with your lawyer this morning and he is set up and is prepared to do what he can along with Me to keep Mara in your care" she explains
"So... Friday, you will be there at 8:30 am, not any later. Brief with your lawyer. Then we go in at 9. I want you both to know that I am rooting for you. But I am sure you are aware how often the biological family gets custody" she says and we nod
"Momma" Mara says coming out to us and I smile. I can never get tired of Hearing that
"Please hold me" she says and I chuckle at her politeness and pick her up, making sure she is settled in my lap
"Does she know?" I hear Delilah ask Emily
"No... we weren't sure if we should tell her" Emily says
", do what feels right to you. I can't give you an answer" she tells us both
Once Delilah left we had to get ready to leave to meet Maya and Carina to tour the city.... But my mind was a bit too occupied
