Emily's POV
We ended up staying an hour at the park yesterday and JJ and I left. Mara wasn't happy but she didn't cry,
We picked Mara back up from Amy at her house last night,
Now it's just us today until she has to go back to Amy's tomorrow. I'm so ready for this month to be over
"Mommy? We can go to the park?" Mara ask
"I don't think we can go to that park but we can go to another one" I say and she nods
"Alright we can go after your nap then" I say
"Nap now?" She ask
"Not yet" I chuckle and she frowns
It was only lunch time and JJ was getting something simple
After lunch Mara was quick to say she wanted a nap and laid down on the bed and we read her a story and she was asleep
"Amy texted" JJ tells me
"She wants to know if we can meet up today. Says she wants to talk to us about something" she explains
"Where? I told Mara we would take her to the park after her nap" I say and she nods and types into her phone
"She said we can meet at the school again so Mara can play while we talk" she says and I nod
"Okay, that works" I tell her

Mara had just woken up from her nap and was just laying quietly on the bed
"Hey.... You want to go to the park now?" I ask and she nods and sits up and reaches for me
I picked her up and she rested her head on my shoulder while rubbing her eyes
"So we're going to the same park and you can play while me and momma talk to Amy" I say
"Leave?" She pouts
"No, we aren't leaving. Just talking" I say and she nods
Once she was more awake we got ready so we could leave the hotel. I really hate being in an hotel. I can't wait to sleep in my own bed again
When we got to the school it was just us again so we got Mara out so she could play a little before Amy got here
Amy showed up a few minutes later and mara walked over to us
"You can keep playing" JJ says and kisses her head and Mara goes back to the slides, staying on the smaller one
"Is everything okay?" JJ ask straight out as Amy sat down
"Yes. I spoke with my Lawyer about Maras case" she says
"When I found out my sister died. I seen this opportunity to make sure my niece didn't end up like her. I didn't want Mara to end up in the streets. So I felt like I was obligated to do something about it. I figured I was the one who needed to make sure she went to school, and to make sure she was loved and to be the person that would always be there" she starts
"But, after almost 2 weeks I realized I was wrong. I'm not the person Mara needs. She needs you two. You two are the ones who are supposed to make sure she has everything she would ever need. And I am so so sorry for trying to take her away from that. I just wasn't ready to lose the only family I really had left" she explains and wipes her eyes
"So, this morning I called my lawyer and I am dropping everything. Mara deserves to be with you guys. I'm not fighting you anymore. I would like to keep in contact. Just to make sure she will be okay and I would like to see her. If you guys ever make trips out here and if I make it back to DC" she says and JJ and I both just take a moment to process what she had said
"Really?" JJ ask after a minute and Amy nods
"She loves you, you love her. It's wrong of me to ruin that" she says and JJ wraps her arms around her
"Thank you... and we got her. She'll be safe. And happy and loved" JJ says
"I think, Mara knowing you would still be a good thing. I want us to keep connected. Um, I don't know about us making any trips anytime soon... but As you know JJs sister is out here" I explain
"I know, and I figured you would let me" she smiles
"Of course. We, we can't be more thankful. Honestly. Thank you." I say and she nods and smiles
"If it's okay with you both I would like to visit around Christmas and her birthday for sure" she says and we nod
"Yea of course. That's more than okay." JJ smile and looks over to Mara who was laughing as she went down the slide And called her over to us
"What momma?" She ask and tilted her head as JJ lifted her up on her knee
"So we have news..... you get to stay with me and mommy forever and ever" she says
"Really!?" She ask excitedly and I laugh
"Yea baby. Forever" I smile
"Thought I had to live with you?" She ask Amy; I think that's the longest I have heard her talk to Amy
"Well, I think you are better with your mommies. And I think I will stick to being the fun aunt, how does that sound?" Amy ask and Mara, who was still smiling ear to ear nods and leaned forward off of JJs lap and reached for Amy who picked her up and sat her in her own lap as Mara hugged her
"Thank you Aunt Amy" Mara says and a tear falls down Amy's face
"You are so welcome sweet girl" she says and kisses Maras head and she giggles
"I know that you guys are going to want to go home sooner now. Would it be possible to maybe spend the day together, all of us? My treat. We can do lunch, and dinner" Amy says
"Yes, that would amazing. And we will probably stay until Saturday or Sunday." JJ says
"Perfect" Amy smiles and kisses Maras head again
"You want to play?" Mara ask her and Amy nods
"Yea..let's go" Amy smiles and Mara looks to JJ and I
"You go play, me and mommy will be right here" JJ tells her and she nods and walks away with Amy
"Wow, would you look at that" I smile
"She just didn't want to be taken away. She knows she is ours" JJ says and I smile
"So what happens now?" I ask
"Well, we go through with our adoption" I smile and she kisses me
