"So, were you really going to trust your friends? After so much hostility?" detective Richardson asked.

"I said nothing about trust," I corrected, tilting an eyebrow.

"So, what exactly was your plan? Did you go on to stab them in the back instead?"

I scoffed. "And what would I get by doing that?" My question arose no answer from him. "Detective, my motive wasn't hurting my friends. It was the very opposite, in fact. I needed them to be careful, for which I needed to be cautious."

"Cautious, how?"

"By keeping my real enemies close."

"And here's your room," Shanish said, unlocking the door to the hotel room before pushing it wide open. Helena and I stepped inside the space and placed our luggage on each of our single beds with a cream white sheet spread over it. The walls were grayish-white, with a chandelier hanging from the ceiling. A huge almirah was pressed against one wall while the other had strings of fairy lights running across it. However, the major highlight was the floor-length window at the far corner of the room, and in the last rays of sunlight, a dimly lit Las Vegas peeked at us from between the folds of the magenta curtains.

Fancy, I thought. Perfect.

"So, chill, I guess?" Shanish's voice made us turn our heads towards her in unison.

"You aren't staying?" Helena asked.

Shanish shook her head. "The Arts Exhibition Board needs me. I'll be staying with them for today." Helena and I nodded. "Speaking of, I need you both at Bellagio by eight tomorrow. Take a cab if I'm unable to make it here. Got it?"

I passed her a massive nod, knowing how well I could get up by myself with no one dragging me out of bed. Maybe Helena could serve as a human alarm.

"Alright, I should go. See you tomorrow." And with that, Helena shut the door as I hurriedly plopped down on my bed, staring at the golden chandelier above me. I swear I could've been snoring in only a minute of lying down but an entire day of having your cellphone on airplane mode was enough for me to forget about what was most important. Letting everyone know where I was. It was freaking LV for a reason!
