As I slept , I heard the phone ring on my nightstand. Turning on the light , I looked at the clock which read "12:30 am".
Seeing an unknown number , I answered the phone
I don't usually answer numbers that I don't know , but something told me that I needed to answer this one
"Hello" I answered in a raspy voice which showed that I was sleeping
"Yes, Ms.Hicks this is detective Sharon. It's about your daughter, we need you down here at the station immediately" The detective spoke making me hop out of bed.
I threw some clothes on and shoes on before running upstairs to wake up Kelsey
"Kelsey , get up we gotta go to the station" - I drove like a bat out of hell trying to get to the station , I turned a twenty minute drive into a ten.
When we pulled up we jumped out of the car going into the station
"Detective Sharon" I said as I went to her desk
"Yes ma'am , right this way" she said leading me and Kelsey to a door. -

While we were sitting in this room , Keem told me that if the police asked about Lashawn to tell them I didn't know where he was
I agreed to do it because I didn't wanna go to jail for murder. In no way was I fit to be wearing a orange jumpsuit
As we sat in the room the door open and I locked eyes with my mama
Standing up slowly, I walked towards her
"My baby" she cried as she pulled me into a long hug
Tears escaped my eyes rapidly , I sobbed as my mama comforted me. Being back into her presence made me feel better. I felt like I wasn't trapped in the feeling of emptiness anymore
She pulled away from the hug and grabbed my face as more tears came down
Examining my face , she let out a sigh
"H-he did this to you?" She asked in a shaky voice and I nodded my head
Looking over my mama's shoulder , I seen my sister standing in the doorway crying as well
"Come here girl" she laughed as she cried
Pulling me into a hug , she whispered something to herself ."I knew you were still out there"
A couple minutes later after all the hugs and stuff they turned their attention to Keem.
"Mama and Kelsey , this is Keem. Him and his friends are the reason I'm here right now" I stated looking at him
My mama walked over to him and hugged him and he hugged her back
"Thank you so much" she said to him as she pulled back
"No problem" he smiled at her
"I'm gonna get out y'all way, I gotta head home" Keem said walking towards the door
