christmas is my favourite season at hogwarts. as my parents are super successful aurors they are never around for christmas, meaning i don't go home. i haven't been home in the six years that i've been at the school so far and i don't plan on it this year. i love waking up in the castle on christmas morning, seeing the fresh snow blanketing the ground and the decorations around the hufflepuff common room. not many others stay over the holiday, too, so it's kind of nice to have some peace and quiet to relax from the exams.

it's even nicer because my friend, and long-time crush, chaeyoung also stays. we usually end up being the only two in the hufflepuff house who stay, meaning we pretty much get to do whatever we want. i love spending one-on-one time with her, it never fails to make me like her even more than before.

i wake up bright and early on christmas morning, as usual, and am delighted to see a small pile of presents at the end of my bed. sitting up a little i look over at chaeyoung's bed, smiling gently when i see her still asleep. checking my clock beside me i see that it is just past 7 so, knowing the feast starts soon, i tiptoe over to chaeyoung and begin to try and wake her. she may love to sleep in but if there's one thing she loves more it's eating. she wouldn't forgive me if i went to breakfast without her.

she wakes up after a few attempts but just as she turns to glare at me, it seems to set in that it's christmas and her face breaks out into a huge grin. the sight of it makes my heart flutter in my chest but i ignore it in favour of smiling excitedly back at her.

"merry christmas!" i say.

"merry christmas," she replies. she sits up and reaches over to pull me into a hug. i wrap my arms tightly around her waist and let out a deep breath, closing my eyes as i sink into the heat of her body. i pull away after a couple of seconds, though, not wanting her to hear how hard and fast my heart is beating.

"want to get breakfast first or open presents?" i ask. chaeyoung's grin widens as she looks down to the presents at the end of her bed.

"i'm not hungry yet," she says.

i let out a mock gasp. "park chaeyoung not hungry? what kind of alternate universe did i wake up in?"

she rolls her eyes at me and reaches a hand out to smack my leg. "shut up and get your presents."

i run to grab my presents from my bed then dump them next to hers so we can open them together. i receive some comfy pyjamas from my parents, yellow of course, some books i've been wanting to read from my friends, and other random things that i mentioned wanting. it makes me so happy to know how much my friends and family care for me, i feel so grateful.

once we've opened those gifts, chaeyoung turns to me and gives me a shy smile.

"i got you something, too," she says. i grin back.

"so did i." we hand each other our gifts and, i gesture for chaeyoung to go first. i'd managed to find a limited edition copy of her favourite book, after a LOT of searching, and i've been really excited to give it to her. i watch as she gently rips the paper off, stomach flipping nervously, and break out into a smile at the look of awe on her face when she sees the book. i'm so glad that she seems to love it.

"h-how did you find this?" she asks.

"nuh uh, a magician never reveals their secrets," i tease. she giggles at that with a shake of her head before looking back down at the book.

"thank you so much," she whispers, leaning over to hug me again.

"of course." she pulls away a second later to look at the book again but then lifts her head to the present in my hands.

"open yours now," she says, putting her own aside. i grin excitedly as i turn my attention to my present and tear the paper off it. inside is a little blue box and when i open it, my heart leaps straight into my throat seeing a pair of earrings i'd told chaeyoung i really liked. they're just a simple pair of yellow flowers but they're so beautiful and i can't believe chaeyoung got them for me.

"chae...you didn't have to," i say.

"of course i did. you said you really wanted them so i wanted you to have them."

i lift my head up to look at her and i can't hide the look of pure love in my eyes. i know she can see it, too, because she looks caught off guard for a second but then she smiles prettily at me. without saying a word, she leans over so she's on her knees and presses a soft kiss on my lips.

she pulls away before i can react and giggles at the look of surprise on my face.

"y-you-"

"yes, (y/n), i like you, too," she says.

"but... you never said anything."

"yeah, well, you didn't either!"

we both break out into giggles and chaeyoung's head drops onto my shoulder, making my heart leap into my throat.

"well, at least we know now, hey?" she says, lifting her eyes to look at me again. i can see them sparkle with excitement and all i can do is smile back.

"at least we know," i agree. we stare at each other for a couple of seconds before mutually leaning in until our lips meet in the middle. after a couple of quick but sweet kisses, we both pull away with bright pink cheeks. we sit in comfortable silence for a little while, just enjoying the moment together, but then chaeyoung's stomach grumbles with hunger, effectively ruining the mood.

"shall we get some breakfast?" i ask.

"sounds good to me," she replies. after throwing on our new pyjamas and a hoodie each, we walk down to the great hall hand-in-hand.

we spend the rest of the day sides plastered together and by the time we go to sleep, we're both incredibly happy with the change in our relationship. this was by far the best christmas ever.

happy holidays to you all! i hope you liked this <3
