"Hana, aren't you feeling uncomfortable with your dress? It's so hot today"

'I'm so uncomfortable. So uncomfortable with covering myself every day. But what else I have to do?'

My mind screamed at his sudden question.

"I'm fine. Thank you" I uttered slowly.

"Hana, would you like to see the lanterns with me today? At night?"

"Lanterns? What lanterns?"

He looked surprised.

"Wishing lanterns. Which people fly wishing love and happiness to their family"

'Family?'

I felt numb.

"Do your mom fly lanterns for you?"

I chuckled at his question internally. He never knew my relationship with mom nor I wanted him to know.

"Ye...yeah. She does" I uttered a lie

'Why did I lie to him?'

'I don't know. I still don't know'

"Then you won't be able. Right? You have to be with your mom"

I looked at him. He was looking at the sky.

"Doesn't your mother fly lanterns for you?"

I asked him.

He looked at me and smiled bitterly.

"She died. A long time ago"
