You should know me for I worked under you for years, ever since I was old enough to push a broom.

Your Majesties took me away from my home, as well as my twin sister, Bellona. We screamed for our mother as your guards carried us away on their horses, the two of you sitting comfortably in your lavish carriage, drawn by white stallions.

I resented you for that, but upon reaching the castle, you treated me with such kindness that I couldn't despise you. You sent the guards back to our home for our mother, only to find that she had been killed by an unknown assailant on her chestnut horse in the forest. They brought her back and Bellona and I wept upon the body before she was buried with honor.

Then your son, Prince Ian, bumped into me the next day. The closest maid began yelling at me that I didn't move fast enough, but he waved her off and said that he had been distracted. He was so sweet that I couldn't help it.

I wanted to be his friend, even though I worked in both the stables, kitchen and the rest of the castle. So when you made me the head maid for the prince, I was so excited. Bellona warned me that love was dangerous, that, as maids, we couldn't fall in love with those above us. She had experienced such pain before.

A prince of another kingdom had led her on when he came to visit our village, saying that he would send for her when he got home, but he never did. So she became selfish with her trust as time passed. You made Bellona the head stablewoman, where she met your second son when he had come in from a ride.

He had been getting prepared to move across the waters, but they began getting to know each other and formed a bond, and, I dare to say this, he earned her admiration and trust as well as her gaining his. As she had whispered to me when I came to the stables, they had ridden, or walked hand in hand in the moonlight, with the Stable Lord (That is what we called the man who ran the stables) as chaperone, and they talked of their dreams, fears, and hopes.

Then, six days after he left, she came to meet me outside the stable with a cherry-shaped accessory in her hair, her eyes dreamy as she hummed a hello to me as she danced to the oat bin.

'What has happened?'  I requested to know of my distracted sister who had forgotten the oat buckets, for I had been unable to come to the stable for cleaning the castle.

She blushed! She blushed as she murmured 'He has promised to wait for me to come to him... As a sign of his promise, six days ago, he has given me his suitor pin for my hair.'  I was delighted for her, yet I knew that the prince's aunts were coming for a visit soon.

As I got her to gather her scattered thoughts, the first aunt came into the stable yard, her hair the color of a blue jay, riding her horse as a man would. She happily swung down and handed me the reins to her Connemara Pony before waving to the palace with a broad grin.

Then the second aunt entered the yard, her deep blue-haired head held high as she rode in a side-saddle on her black mare. The species of the horse, we knew not, but that is getting away from the aunt. She gracefully slid off the horse with a stable boy's help, giving a gentle smile to me and my sibling, who had taken the reins of both horses and lead them away.

The first aunt, upon Bellona leaving the yard, eagerly asked if her eldest nephew had given Belle (the aunt's nickname for Bellona) the suitor accessory. The second aunt clamored for the answer as well, casting away her elegance for the response for the moment.

Before I could answer, the third aunt made her appearance, her nose turned up in distaste as she exited her carriage. Her grooms lead the horses attached to the carriage into the stable, avoiding Bellona as she failed (to everyone but the last aunt) to hide her suitor's accessory.
