Subject A13 behaved badly when they brought her to the surgery room. That was no surprise. The teenager's pointless resistance was normal, and the guards didn't react as she fought them, except to tighten their grip on her.

They continued to drag her down the hallway, ignoring her thrashing limbs despite her strength. There were three of them, adult men who easily overpowered her.

Because of her negative behavior, she never lived with the other Subjects. Chancellor Paige had also made it clear from the beginning that Subject A13 was never to learn fighting skills, or even have the opportunity to challenge the guards. Perhaps the woman could see that the Subject would be dangerous if given advantages.

They kept her alone, and they did everything they could to keep her submissive.

Thankfully, shocking the girl with the chip in her brain was enough to shut down her attempts to escape or attack WICKED doctors and guards. She hated being shocked, and it hadn't taken her long to stop trying to fight her way free altogether.

Now, though, it didn't matter if she scuffled with the guards. And she did. Subject A13 fought as best she could with her untrained limbs to wrench her way free so she could run. Of course, she failed, but it wasn't about that. Instead, they made notes on the level of desperation in her wild movements.

She must have known that the end had come. It was now or never, and no fear of being shocked could stop her from trying. Her life was changing, the day a landmark in her journey.

It was time for her to serve her purpose. Soon enough her memory would be wiped, and she would be completely powerless.

The girl continued to struggle as they dragged her towards the Box that spelled out her future. She no longer had the chance to become a threat. She would follow WICKED's plans, or she would die.

Subject A2 was lying unconscious in the surgery room when they finally reached it. The Box was just beyond, waiting for its passengers.

There was nothing the girl could do. Not anymore. She stared numbly at Subject A2, clearly wondering who he was and if it would be her lying on that table next. Her fear gave them an opening, and in a few seconds she was sedated.

In the end, it was quite a simple thing: the murder of a child.

A/N: When I wrote this, I was unaware that there is a fanfiction where the main character is Subject A13. Since I have not read that story, you can be assured that mine has no correlation to it.
