19~Anxiety

Kate. Dan picked it up, pulling away. He sighed and answered.

"What's up Kate?" He asked.

I couldn't hear what Kate said but Dan's eyes went wide when she said it.

"Okay, I-I I'll be there as soon as possible." Dan said. He put the phone down and sighed again. "Kate is having the baby, now."

"Really?" I asked

"Yeah."

"Great timing."

"I know right."

Dan kissed me and called a taxi. He went and told Phil and I dreaded spending the night on my own again.

"Jess, come join us in the living room!" Phil called out when Dan left.

"Okay." I shouted back. I got up and went into the living room where Phil and Cat were sitting. They smiled at me when I came in and I smiled back. We watched anime and ate malteasers until it was dinner. Cat and Phil went to make a stir fry and I went on my phone. I saw a text from Dan:

Hey Jess, you okay? xx

I'm fine. xx

I lied

Sure? xx

Yes. xx

Well, I'll try to be back tonight. xx

Okay. xx

You can text or phone me whenever you want Jess. xx

Okay, I'll take you up on that. xx

Then Cat and Phil came in with plates and a bowl of stir fry. We ate it and then went back to the couch and watched the newest episode of the walking dead. Cat and Phil started to feel tired at about 10:30 and they went to bed. Phil was reluctant to leave, but I told him it was fine. I lied. I had been getting quite good at lying lately. I went and checked on Elsie and decided to sleep so that I could actually get some sleep before Elsie woke up at about 9. I changed into some leggings and one of Dan's plain black tops. I got into the bed and put happy little pill on my phone and put my earphones in.

I listened to Troye for about 30 minutes until I realized that I was too anxious to sleep. I didn't understand why I was so anxious until I started going through scenarios in my head, which isn't a good idea at 11:30. What if Dan leaves me for Kate? I mean she can have kids can't she. You've had a kid. But she has a health problem. And? I picked up my phone to text Dan, I was starting to feel really low when I heard the door open. I layed down and tried to pretend to sleep when Dan walked in.

"Jess, I know you're awake." Dan told me, he kissed my cheek and went to his wardrobe. He climbed into the bed a few minutes later and pulled me to his chest. He kissed my forehead and I sighed.

"You're okay now, I'm here." Dan whispered.

"I was fine." I lied to him.

"No you wern't."

"How do you know?"

"Phil knows you better than you think Jess and so do I."

"I just didn't want you to worry Dan."

"I always worry about you, even when you're happy and with me, even when you're asleep." I smiled into Dan's chest and traced my finger over my ring. "I love you Jess."

"Love you too Dan. Always."

"As far as the East is from the West."

I felt Dan smile "We'd better get some sleep."

"Yeah." I yawned.

"I won't sleep until you do and I'll still be here when you wake up." I smiled and closed my eyes, forgetting about everything with Dan next to me, comforting me and then it started. The nightmare made a reappearance. Dan couldn't fight this worry away.
