M E D I A channel spokesperson, crowded the room. They had been invited to the event by the hosts. It was a moment that the world wanted to see. It was the beginning of a new phase. How could they miss out?

Cameras clicked, their white lights blinding the eyes of the guests. It looked like a fashion show. With each person topping the other. With elaborate dresses. It looked more like a wedding, with a theme of blacks and greys. Rather than a funeral.

Rosamund was a mess. She stood infront of Jacob's casket. With tears dripping from her swollen eyes. Her usually made up face, now giving way to the reality. Her skin was pale. As if someone had robbed her off of her spirit. She clenched her daughter's hand tightly. As the mother-daughter duo embraced each other in a hug. The black dresses, bringing their grief to life.

"Why did dad leave us?" Rue spoke up.
This was a question she had been repeatedly. Like a broken record player. Her shattered soul,  did not know what do. Her father, the man who was supposed to protect her and walk her down the aisle was no more.

Why was fate so cruel? Why did her aunt have to file a case? Did she not marry a rich man already? So why would she ruin her family? Was she stil jealous of everything that her mother had?

Rue inside her heart knew her father had it coming. With scandals of him assaulting girls coming out every other day. But to her, he was the man who took her to music lessons. Or baked with her. He was not the man that media claimed he was.

Behind her, she knew, rows on rows were filled up by none other than his ex-mistresses. Her mother had never objected. And she had never understood why. Was love really like that? Made you give up your dreams for the one you love?

She could not believe the audacity these women had to show up. Atleast in his last seconds, he should have been allowed to be theirs. Just this once, let them spend time together, just the three of them.

Rosamund turned around. Her shattered and broken self, facing the mistresses of her husband. She knew that none of them were as important as her. She was the one he had chosen to marry. She was the one who had his child. His future heir. Rue Jacob Montgomery.

"We should begin darling!" Karen pulled Rosamund and Rue aside.
The two started to sob silently, finally in the embrace of a woman that made them feel all sorts of warmth.

"We are all joined here today, to celebrate the life of Mr.Jacob. He was a family man-" the priest began to speak.
His monologue induced feelings of sympathy and painted him like a man that he was not.

The photographers, invited, all seemed pleasantly surprised to see that Angelica was absent. He was after all the husband of her sister. They were all choosing to ignore, that this man was her culprit. The man that had, at a point, broken her beyond repair. And was the reason her family had disowned her.

As the ceremony progressed, Rosamund became more emotional. Her support system, Melissa, her beloved sister, comforted her and her daughter. She remembered all the time they had spent. From their sessions of sloppy lovemaking. To hearing him talk about his mistress. She had enjoyed everything with him.

The casket was lead to the burial site. The tears not stopping. It was an emotional moment for everyone. He had been a part of the Roosevelt's life for more than a decade. Their daughter, had lived with him in marital bliss. Now, she was robbed of her backbone, the man who supported her with an iron firm grip. Karen could not help but shed a few tears.

"Ralph! This is important! You can not leave!" Melissa whisper shouted at her husband.
"You need to understand, I have a match. I can not stop. You want me to risk my career because of your brother-in-law?" Ralph was pissed.
His wife seemed to care only about her sister. And had forgotten him. She was always over at Rosamund's home. Seldom coming back. Their son, Ray, had to move to L.A with him. He was three and needed his mother, and his mother did not have the time for him. Busy for teaching their son basics of life.

Ralph and Melissa had not had a normal relationship for some time. With Ralph feeling Melissa's disinterested behaviour in their life. She was more so invested in her brother's and sister's lives. Not caring what happened in her own.

It irked him that anytime he came back from a tour or tournament, he would not come back to a peaceful atmosphere. Instead, his wife would he shouting around. Screaming at and cursing people.

Sighing, Ralph raised his hands. He did not want to be having a fight at a funeral. Wishing her goodbye, he left the place. Entering his car. He rubbed his rough palms over his face. He needed to be away from this place.

At times, he wanted to get a divorce. But he did not have a good enough reason. If something were to happen, it would be the last straw before thing between him and his wife are over.

Breaking his train of thought, his phone began to ring loudly. It was his best friend. Whom he had not met for a few months.
"Hey mate! Where are you these days?" Ralph questioned.
The only one who could provide him with much needed comfort was this man.
"You're coming to my next game? Sick!" Ralph was ecstatic.

His friend, had been busy for a few years. First, with setting up a business and then with his girlfriend, well now wife. His wife, Angelica, was the sister of his wife and the two had met quite some time. He had, however, refrained from telling his wife that. They had disowned Angelica. So it was not his place to be telling them her whereabouts.

He ran his fingers along his hair. His team, had just come back from a training camp in Aisa and Africa. Where they had been teaching young children how to play. Recruiting new talents. This was his last year before retirement. Then he would sign up as an assistant coach. For a small team. At the current point in his life, he wanted to stay as far away from public life, as possible.

He had not been able to keep up with the news. So Ralph was unaware that his wife and her family had met Angelica. Neither did he know the reason behind Jacob's death. Or why all those years ago, Angelica had been disowned. He preferred to stay away from matters that were not his business.

Ralph looked at his phone as a ping sound was heard in the car. It was a text from Melissa.
"I will be at the match. We need to talk!"
Ralph just replied with a simple okay. He could not help but ponder over what his wife wished to talk about. And he was, a little bit worried, that a confrontation between Angelica and Melissa may occur.

Did he really sign up for this? When he had met Melissa, she was a peaceful young woman. Now, she had transformed into a beast. A woman, who constantly shamed other women for things that they did. Sometimes he was glad his son lived with him. Now at the age of five, he would be picking up things real fast. And he did not need him to be anything like his mother to say the least.
