Chapter 4 // The Slytherin dorms

Wren's hair ↑↑↑

Hermione's POV // august 31st

"off to bed, pip, pip"

As if on que all the deserts disappeared and the prefects stood up, beckoning the first years towards them

"first years, this way"

We followed the pair of twins with green badges that read prefect on them outside into the entrance hall and down an even larger staircase

"no wonder there's no P.E class, these stairs are enough" I muttered while the blond girl prefect was chattering about everything

"these are portraits of anything you can imagine really, remember to watch out for those staircases" she pointed towards the moving staircase that practically every other house was going up "they move so be careful, our common room and dorms are in the dungeon, don't ask why I have no idea" the girl turned around 

"c'mon keep up!" I realized we had all stopped following and were just admiring everything, the boy looked immensely bored as we stood in front of a picture of a man holding a snake

"pureblood" there were snippets of laughter at this, I thought it's kind of rude considering there could be mug- there's only purebloods here isn't there? Never mind, there are more interesting things to witness and do rather than overthink

We walked inside the common room

I thought it would be ugly and disgusting considering its under the lake and a dungeon, but it's not

It has a gigantic black fireplace in the far back with two staircases around it, presumably going to the dorms, three large sofas in front of the fireplace, desks and chairs scattered around (each with two or three names on them, telling you whose desks they are) good there are some bookshelves (yes I do still like books, at least potter didn't take that away) a big chandelier hanging from the roof and a few windows that just showed the green underbelly of the lake

"gather round, c'mon we don't have all night!" wow he's bossy

"right, the boys' dormitories are downstairs to your left" even further in the lake?

"and the girls are upstairs to your right, all your belongings have been sent up to your designated rooms and have been altered to be the Slytherin uniform, unless you already had it" Draco and I laughed lightly as the boy looked at us

"off to bed, classes start tomorrow"

I groaned "I'm gonna have to make friends with other girls now aren't I?" Draco nodded and stalked off while Blaise gave me a fleeting hug before he left as well

"Merlin's sake" I muttered walking towards my dorm, there were already three girls in there

"hi, you must be Hermione" I nodded to the blond shaking my hand a little to excitedly "Sorry, I like meeting new friends... I'm Astoria by the way, this is Millicent and wren" I nodded and walked towards the only empty bed with my stuff on top

Millicent had brown hair and brown eyes, not pretty nor hideous

Wren had her hair parted evenly and one side was silver while the other was Black, she seemed very interesting

(Wren's character is someone from another book called potter? not my character at all)

"do you guys know anyone else here?" Astoria asked once we had all finished unpacking

"yeah, my twin and his best friend are here" I answered putting on my silk green pyjamas

"who are they?" I turned around

"Blaise Zabini is my twin and his best friend is Draco Malfoy" Millicent seemed to sink inside her quilt more and the air became a lot more awkward "Alright, Draco can be annoying and mean but he's not a death eater ok? its a bit to early to go thinking that" I sighed and they nodded, seemingly happy with my answer

"I don't properly know anyone yet, my sister is coming here next year and I met a girl called pansy on the train" I stopped in my tracks

"Parkinson? isn't she a Gryffindor?"

Astoria sighed "not all Gryffindors are bad you know"

I scoffed "sure, what about you inkwood?"

Wren looked up from where she was sitting "I don't know anyone yet"

I nodded, settled into my bed and took a book off my bedside table, ready for a good read after a long day

"night" Astoria turned off her bedside lamp and so did Millicent

I stayed awake reading my book, Wren was on some weird rectangular machine, after the two girls were asleep I closed my book and looked towards Wren, curiosity taking over me

"What is that?"

she looked up and shook the object slightly "this? it's called a mobile phone, it's muggle technology, you can talk to people far away through it" I nodded, still confused "come here I'll show you how to use it"

I stood up, always interested in something new, walked towards her bed and sat down next to her

"right, so, see these letters?" she pointed towards a selection of button things on the object underneath a small screen

"yeah"

she nodded "these are what you use to message someone, if you want to talk directly like we are right now then you press this button" it was a small button with a green picture on it

"you go into your contacts" she pressed a few buttons before the screen went into an 'app' where she pressed the green button and it started ringing loudly

"oh no" she flipped it shut quietly and we laughed

"I think I get it, and if you wanna talk without using your voice you use the letters? Like a note in class or a letter?"

she nodded "exactly, yeah" I stood up and walked over to my bed

"Sounds fun, hey... I have no friends other than Draco and Blaise which is pretty sad, to be honest, so do you, I dunno... wanna like be friends then?"

she got under her covers and turned the light out "yeah, ok"

I smiled "ok, g'night"
