The morning after was different, Friday was here and I had my last History final today. I cringed because today the Valedictorians - the new valedictorians, for that matter - will be announced today at lunch. The whole school is buzzing with the Senior Prom only two weeks away.

Less lunches are being eaten by girls who want to lose weight for their dresses and everyone is trying to find someone to go with. I will probably end up at home watching Netflix or studying.

I drank huge sips from my coffee and changed into clothes, I wore some regular jeans and a long sleeve thin shirt with a green utility jacket over it. I slipped on my boots and decided to put my hair in a ponytail.

Walking to school was quiet and boring, I wanted to get today over with so I could go home and sleep and do whatever it is I've done with my life.

....

I sat in lunch silently eating my sandwich as Aiden and Liam talked about who knows what and Samara babbled on to Delilah and I about a dress she found for prom, I kept getting distracted I just wanted to hear who the new valedictorians were and I wanted to leave. My history final had been hell, I probably will pass it by very few points remaining if I pass it at all.

"...I think the mint would be better since I am a tanner color now" Samara asked Delilah and I, I nodded pretending to be listening when really all I was doing was waiting.

"Attention students," Mrs. Moore stood at the stage in front of the cafeteria, she spoke into a mic and the lunchroom was quick to quiet down, my heart was beating faster and faster and my hands fiddled together, I couldn't help but cross eye contact with Harry from across the room, he ignored me but I knew that it took as much trouble for him to ignore me as it did for me to ignore him. "Today I will be announcing your future valedictorians, now it was a close running this year but like always in the history of this school we only take two valedictorians and well I believe that these two students are the sheer example of genius, respect, and honor"

"It should be you going up there" Aiden told me, I gave him a small and forced smile but kept my attention to Mrs. Moore.

"Now the first Valedictorian is Bradley Abernathy," I saw Bradley stand up, his boxed glasses fixed on the edge of his nose, he wore jeans and a cotton material button up with an expensive Rolex watch. The cafeteria clapped for him and I couldn't help but wish it was me "and our other valedictorian for this year's graduating class is Rosie Wells"

I nearly choked on the air and I looked at Samara "what the fuck?" I asked, I saw Harry looking at me with almost an apologetic look "Aiden how?" I asked him.

"My uncle Henry, Rosie's dad, paid for them to let her back in" he gave me a sad pat.

"Class may I present to you this year's valedictor-" I interrupted Mrs. Moore, I couldn't believe it that I was talking back.

"Wait!" I called out and I could feel myself get anxiety from everyone watching me "You said Rosie and I were out"

"By the circumstances I had to let her back in Ms. Summers" Moore gave me a gritted toothed smile.

"But that's not fair," I argued standing up "I have better grades than her but you chose to put her back in?" I crossed my arms.

I could hear some classmates going 'ooh' "It was a hard decision but I think I chose wisely"

"No," I said and sucked in a breath "you chose the money, I can't afford to pay what her dad paid so that's why I wasn't put in"

"Sit down Summers" Bradley hissed to the microphone and Rosie crossed her arms amused by my reaction to say the least.
