Suddenly, I felt his clawed hand lift up my chin and I was face to face with his blue eyes again. If my face was red before, having him this close to me, and staring right back into my eyes mischievously was just too much for me-

"What cat got your tongue?" He mused.

"Well, I uh- I m-mean...no?" I managed to stutter out. I mentally slapped myself for that one. Smooth Marinette.

He chuckled and began to walk around my room before laying on my pink chaise in the back. "What aren't you asleep, Princess? You know you have a big day tomorrow." I rolled my eyes at the nickname. He wasn't wrong though. I should be asleep. I had a huge internship at the Agreste Foundation tomorrow, and staying up all night was not going to do much good for my first day on the job.

"I can't sleep... I'm actually glad you're here because... Well... I wanna know- " Much to my displeasure he raised his hand cutting me off.

"Trust me I'll tell you when I think it's right. It's only been a week, try adjusting first."

Wow. That was vague. I rolled my eyes, again, desperate for the answers that he was clearly stalling on giving me. There was a long uncomfortable pause between us. I was frantically trying to think of a subject that we could talk about anything would be better than this- But then thankfully as if luck was on my side it hit me. Oh of course! I totally forgot!

"Oh I have something for you!" I said excitedly.

His smirk morphed into a genuine smile in seeing how excited I was to show him. I felt my face go red again. In his eyes I probably looked like a toddler getting giddy over candy.

(A/N: I seriously- this is bad I'm leaving.)

"Here! I know I didn't have time to wrap it but: Ta-Da!"

I pulled out a black sweater with green little paw prints scattered all over. I giggled at the deign. Then, like an idiot I started rambling on and on about, well:

"I made it for you as a thank you for everything you've done for me in the past week. Things have been kind of hard, and you being here just makes it better. Well not TOO much better if you know what I mean, but not less better. Just the perfect amount of better you know? Oh, this is a nightmare-"

(A/N: canon Marinette right there)

I stopped my idiotic rambling self to study his body language and facial features which all tensed up. His smile had faded and his eyes went wide. It looked like it almost brought him pai- my thoughts were disrupted by a whisper that came from him, "Ladybug." Now I felt my muscles tense up and I looked at him. He couldn't take his eyes off of the sweater as his white claws felt through the soft pristine design.

"Who's Ladybug?" I asked.

"No one." He said in a voice just above a whisper.

"No," I protested, "you've mentioned her name to me before over and over again. You can't just keep me in the dark and raise your hand to shut me up! I'm confused and scared and it's been a week! This isn't fair and you know it!"

I slapped my hand over my mouth in shock. I can't believe I just said that! He couldn't believe it either. Chat finally looked up from the scarf and into my eyes. A shiver ran down my spine, it felt like he was looking right through me.

His eyes weren't mischievous or joyful or full of love... They were full of pain.

"I- Chat... I'm so sorry-"

"Don't be. You deserve to know." A sad smile swept across his face. Guilt cracked through me. He looked broken. It's true I've only known him for a week but seeing him like this- just did something to me. I walked over to the chaise and sat down beside him, holding his hand and intertwining his fingers with mine.

Chat gave me a weary smile, trying to let me know he was fine. But you could just tell by his eyes that he wasn't. He spoke softly as he talked as if he was in a dream. "M'Lady... Ladybug, was my partner. We would hang out every day and patrol together. We'd save the world and go on crazy adventures and- God. She was just amazing. Ladybug was stunning and her smile- Oh it just- We were always there for each other and just being with her made me-" He stopped not knowing how to continue. A big smile forming on his face of fond memories over the past four years. I had never seen him this happy... ever.

I couldn't help but feel a twinge of jealousy towards this girl. I squeezed his hand. He turned to me with the smile still in his lips.

"Who- who was she really? Er- Ladybug I mean."

Chat just looked at me, his smile fading. His blue eyes poured into mine. Should I know this already? And then it hit me.

Adrien's POV

I couldn't help but stare into her gorgeous blue eyes. God I missed her. Just talking about her ... made me-

But, questions, questions, and questions. How did she get a hold of that sweater? Did she make another one by coincidence? Or?

My attention soon went to her. She looked at me nervously, her delicate lips parted as her next words came tumbling out, "Who- who was she really? Er- Ladybug I mean."

I- how do you answer a question like that? It was her. It had been her for four whole years. Ladybug is Marinette and Marinette is Ladybug. A part of me felt angry at her for not knowing. How could she do this to me. She knew the pain that this'd cause me and yet she put herself and me in this position- Why would Marinette...

I couldn't help but stare at her eyes surveying her. She really didn't know. She may have been Marinette, but she wasn't M'Lady and she wasn't my Princess.

My thoughts poofed into midair as she spoke again.

"Was I... Ladybug?"

She said those words so innocently so purely. I had to fight the lump in my throat that was rising. I looked at her and gently cupped her cheeks with both of my hands on either side of her face, careful not to scratch her with my claws. I raised my lips and kissed her on the forehead. A light blush dusted over her freckled cheeks.

Nobody's POV

His lips parted from her. He pulled the sweater over his suit, and looked directly at her. He just couldn't. He couldn't bear to tell her the truth. So instead, the feline... lied.

"No, Princess, you weren't my part- Ladybug. Now get some sleep."

And with that, the white cat jumped into the night, leaving a star-struck girl behind, wondering what just happened.
