All Bound to Earth

When the wind and the weather rage on forever,
Time turns an ear and makes it deaf to the winter.

     All bound to earth.
     All ground to dust.

While he drifts among a universe of dancing stars,
The dreamer drinks from the cup of despair.

The moon's face is turning;
A dark sun is burning.
Sandcastles are crumbling
In the wake of a tide.

When the chain never falls and the wing never flies,
Gravity is the culprit that thieves, kills, and lies.

     All bound to earth.
     All ground to dust.

Brutality falls softly on the backs of the strong
While silently breaking every blessed bone.

Darkness is reigning;
Daylight is fading.
Brave warriors are dying
In the blood of a battle.

When the bones have been crushed into humble ashes,
The storm screams its victories amidst lightning flashes.

     All bound to earth.
     All ground to dust.

The hour is nigh
As destiny approaches;
It will neither cower nor shake –
Alas, not for heaven's sake,
No, nor for earth's.
Not for angels and demons
Nor any kind of man;
Not for joy nor for sorrow,
Today nor tomorrow.

The good and the evil
Suffer one fate alike;
Both the proud and the humble
Still fall forth and stumble.

Alas, not one is free
From the grip of life's wrath.
No, not one is free
From the curse of death's sweet song.

     All bound to earth.
     All ground to dust.

The living toil against the fragility of life,
While restlessly, the deceased bear witness.

The story is ending;
The final words are spending.
Proud mountains are quaking
At the roar of the seas.

Then when the waves fall over the breath of this host,
Black dove, take heart to follow the heavenly ghost.

     All bound to earth.
     All ground to dust.
