Chapter eighteen ~ Max

Max looked up from his notebook as the whole room froze "What the hell was that sound?" Adrain shrugged and Nova stood up and put a finger to her lips "I'll go check it out" she grabbed a knife and creeped upstairs, Max looked at Evie who returned his look of concern, he held her tighter than he probably should but she didn't tell him off. He looked up towards the ceiling when Nova screamed, he was about to stand up when Adrain beat him to it and ran up the stairs "No one move" he whispered just before leaving, Max held Evie tighter and looked around the room, everyone looked as scared as he felt. Adrain came back downstairs and everyone looked up to see what it was "Danna your girlfriend scared mine" a huge wave of relief washed over the room and Nova and Narcissa came down the stairs, Evie gently pulled at Max's arms and he loosened them "Sorry" she smiled back at him and shook her head "It's okay" Max met Narcissa's eyes and she smirked and winked at him, before turning to the room "So I hear we're going against the Renegades?" Nova laughed "Yup, just like old times" Adrain raised an eyebrow "I hope not too much like old times" Max nodded "Yeah I don't particularly wanna go through puberty again" everyone laughed and Narcissa smirked "Yes because it would be such a pity that, that pretty face of yours to be small again" Max blushed and everyone chuckled, Evie smirked "That baby face was adorable you can't deny it" she blushed when everyone looked at her, Narcissa smirked and put her arm around Danna "Looks like nearly all of us have dates for the Winters ball" Max shook his head "Shit Ciss I haven't asked her yet!!" Adrain laughed "Always the gentlemen Max" Max shook his head and looked at Evie who was frozen stiff, he looked at her concerned "Are you okay?" She blinked at him and then looked up at Narcissa "When is it?" Narcissa frowned and shrugged, Adrain checked the calendar on the wall "A couple of days, why?" Evie stiffened and she stood up "Uh, gotta go" she ran out of the room and everyone looked confused at Max, he stood up and Nova held a hand up "I'll go" Max looked at her hand and pushed it away "You may be her sister, but I'm her boyfriend" the word escaped his mouth before he could even think, he blushed and then ran out after Evie, trying to ignore the fact that he didn't know what they were and he had just announced that their dating in front of ALL their friends. Max looked around as his eyes adjusted to the darkness, his hair and clothes getting drenched by the rain "Evie??" He called out but received no reply, "Come on it's me" he yelled out and sighed, starting to walk away from the house "I'm sorry for not telling you about the ball but with everything going on I just-" he sighed and shook his head, sitting on a bench and putting his head in his hands "Mess everything up" he finished in a mumble and he heard someone sit next to him, he looked up and it was her "It's okay... I guess it's just all a bit overwhelming" she took one of his hands and he smiled slightly "Tell me about it, I literally just told everyone that I'm your boyfriend" Evie froze again and he sighed "Shit sorry, that was the wrong thing to say I-" she cut him off by kissing him, he sat shocked for a few seconds before closing his eyes and kissing her back, her hands tangled in his hair and pulled lightly, he put his hand on her leg and she pulled back with a gasp and he pulled his hand away quickly "Sorry" he immediately said and she shook her head "It wasn't that... well it was, but I'm not saying I don't like it" she put her hand on top of his and put it on her thigh he looked at their hands and looked at her "Wait so does that mean you don't mind that I called myself your boyfriend?" She shrugged and leaned her head against his "As long as I can be your girlfriend" he grinned and looked at her "Of course" she smirked and he kissed her again, god, he had a girlfriend, and he was kissing her, in the ice cold rain, which would probably give him a cold which would not be a good idea for the ball- SHIT THE BALL, he pulled away and Evie frowned at him, he took her hands out of his hair and into his own "Evie Artino, will you be my date to the Winters Ball" her confused look disappeared and she laughed "I thought you'd never ask" she hugged him and he laughed, hugging her back before she pulled away "We should get back inside, it's tipping it down" Max laughed and he stood up, Evie took his hand and they walked back into the house, back into the crowded living room where the group were finalising the plan to infiltrate Hugh Everharts office and get all the information the Renegades knew about the Malefactor. It, was gonna be epic
